About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Geological Engineering, the Senior Geologist, Geotechnical is responsible for developing and continuously improving structural geology models to support pit slope designs for future mining areas, hazard identification and risk management for active pit slopes, and identification and assessment of post-mining pit slope stability hazards for exposed pit walls as part of site reclamation and closure work.

This full-time, permanent role is based at EVR’s Sparwood office and involves occasional travel for field reviews and in-person collaboration with personnel at EVR’s mine sites.

To be successful, we require someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who works well as an individual and as a team player. This person has strong analytical, logistical, and problem-solving skills, and can prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment.

Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
Develop and continuously improve structural geology models to inform new pit designs along with geotechnical risk management and design optimization for operating pits
Collaborate with site and project teams on the planning and execution of field investigation programs (e.g., developing prioritized target lists for reverse circulation and core drilling, geophysical and core logging, pit wall and outcrop mapping)
Field reviews and bench face mapping (visual observations along with ground- and drone-based remote sensing) to update structural geology models for operating pits
Structural geology input for the interpretation of pit wall stability monitoring data and the assessment of geotechnical hazards in operating pits
Presentation of structural geology models and communication of the level of model confidence and uncertainties to technical and management personnel
Training and mentoring of personnel including co-op students, new graduates and junior to intermediate engineers and geoscientists

Undergraduate degree in Geology or Geological Engineering. Additional education or certificates will be considered an asset

Minimum seven years’ experience in a geology-focused role at an operating open pit mine and/or investigation and design for new open pit mines

Registered as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or as a Professional Licensee Geoscience (P.L.Geo.) with EGBC with an authorized area of practice that meets the requirements of this role, and

Experience in structurally complex sedimentary deposits, preferably including coal deposits.

Experience in the validation, analysis, interpretation, integration and modelling of large, integrated geoscience datasets.

Proficient in the use of one or more 3D modelling software packages

Ability to manage multiple tasks within required schedules and to accommodate unplanned, high-priority work when necessary, in support of continuous mining operations

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
