As a Mission Lead, you will act as the lead of a substantial business portfolio—setting its strategy, guiding investment and technical direction, developing customer relationships, and taking responsibility for its long-term growth and health. This role is for a leader who wants to build a business, shape technology, and create lasting mission impact.


  • Define the long-term vision, strategy, and growth trajectory for your Mission Area.
  • Identify emerging mission needs, market shifts, and technology trends before they become requirements.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with government customers, mission stakeholders, and industry partners.
  • Shape opportunities from early concept through capture and award.
  • Partner with the business development team and executive leadership to develop growth strategies, pursue new work, and expand customer relationships.
  • Lead or contribute to white papers, proposals, strategic captures, and business development activities.
  • Ensure EXP’s investments align with future customer needs and mission priorities.

  • Guide the overall health and direction of a substantial portfolio of programs, customers, and investments.
  • Maintain accountability for the financial health and growth of the Mission Area.
  • Balance near-term execution with long-term capability development.
  • Evaluate investments in new technologies, products, and internal research efforts.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, customer satisfaction, pipeline health, backlog growth, and strategic positioning.
  • Make informed decisions about where EXP should focus its time, talent, and resources.

  • Help define the technical roadmap for the Mission Area.
  • Connect customer mission challenges with EXP’s capabilities in AI, machine learning, computer vision, signal processing, software, data platforms, and advanced analytics.
  • Partner with technical leaders to ensure our solutions remain differentiated and mission relevant.
  • Drive the transition of new ideas into deployed operational capabilities.
  • Represent EXP's technical vision and mission expertise to senior government and industry audiences.

  • Partner closely with Operations Leads who are responsible for program execution, delivery excellence, and people leadership.
  • Provide strategic direction and context that enables teams to make effective decisions.
  • Help develop the next generation of leaders across the Mission Area.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning, collaboration, autonomy, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster alignment across customers, technology investments, operations, and company strategy.


  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Demonstrated success leading significant technology, mission, or business portfolios.
  • Experience supporting defense, intelligence, or national security customers.
  • Proven ability to build trusted customer relationships and grow business opportunities.
  • Experience shaping and pursuing strategic opportunities, including business development, capture, proposals, or customer engagement.
  • Strong understanding of advanced technology domains such as AI, machine learning, computer vision, signal processing, software systems, data platforms, or related fields.
  • Ability to connect mission needs, technical capabilities, and business objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort engaging with senior government, industry, and internal stakeholders.
  • Track record of developing leaders and building high-performing organizations.

  • Experience with AI/ML, computer vision, autonomous systems, advanced analytics, or other emerging technologies.
  • Experience transitioning technology from research into operational deployment.
  • Experience leading major strategic captures and proposal efforts.
  • Master's degree or higher in a technical, scientific, or business discipline.
  • Deep familiarity with one or more defense or intelligence mission communities.
