~2 min readThe Knife Sharpener is responsible for safely, accurately, and efficiently sharpening knives, scissors, and other assigned tools used by production departments. This role supports safe and effective production operations by ensuring team members have properly sharpened tools needed to perform their work.
The Knife Sharpener must be detail-oriented, safety-focused, and able to communicate clearly with department leaders, supervisors, team members, and management. This position plays an important role in supporting production flow, tool readiness, workplace safety, and overall operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience sharpening knives, scissors, or production tools.
- Prior experience in poultry processing, food processing, manufacturing, production, or a similar environment.
- Experience using sharpening equipment or other mechanical tools.
- Familiarity with production safety requirements and personal protective equipment

Responsibilities

- →Ensure tools are sharpened accurately and returned in proper working conditions.
- →Communicate verbally with supervisors, leads, and team members regarding tool needs, sharpening status, or related concerns.
- →Document and communicate information clearly with department leads, supervisors, and management as needed.
- →Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
- →Follow all safety requirements, company policies, and department procedures.
- →Use sharpening equipment and related tools safely and properly.
- →Participate in training as needed to develop or improve sharpening skills.
- →Work overtime as needed based on production and department needs.
- →Support production departments by helping ensure tools are available and ready for use.
- →Perform other duties as assigned.
Work is conducted primarily in a manufacturing and poultry production environment. This role requires access to production areas and may require working in cold, wet, and fast-paced plant conditions. Hearing and eye protective equipment are required in the production area. Hair and beard nets are required in the production area. Additional personal protective equipment may be required based on task, location, and safety requirements. This position may require standing for long periods, walking, bending, reaching, handling knives and scissors, using sharpening equipment, maintaining a clean work area, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds.
