~1 min readMV Transportation is seeking a Fixed Route Road & Training Supervisor to support fixed-route bus operations at Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority in Donora, PA.
The Fixed Route Road and Training is responsible for providing direct field oversight of fixed-route operations while serving as the primary trainer and coach for vehicle operators. This position supports service reliability, safety performance, ownership of the safety plans and policies, regulatory compliance, and operator development through on-street supervision, operator evaluations, new hire training, refresher training, accident follow-up, and real-time operational support.
The Road Supervisor/Trainer serves as a visible field leader who actively monitors service, responds to operational issues, mentors operators, and ensures compliance with company, client, FTA, DOT, and ADA requirements.
- Monitor daily fixed-route service for on-time performance and schedule adherence.
- Conduct pull-out, pull-in, and route observations.
- Respond to service disruptions, road calls, accidents, customer complaints, and operational emergencies.
- Assist with vehicle change-offs and field support activities.
- Communicate service detours, route modifications, and operational issues to operators and dispatch.
- Operate revenue service when necessary to maintain service delivery.
- Direct employee performance through hiring, coaching, recognition, discipline and termination recommendations through the company and CBA progressive discipline process.
- Deliver new operator classroom training, pre-driving, skills and behind-the-wheel instruction.
- Conduct route familiarization and ADA securement training.
- Facilitate refresher training, remedial coaching, and post-incident training.
- Complete 45-day, 75-day, annual, and performance-based evaluations.
- Provide coaching through ride checks, observations, DriveCam reviews, and mentoring sessions.
- Maintain training records and documentation required by company and client standards.
- Assist in development and implementation of safety campaigns and operator development initiatives.
- Conduct road observations and safety audits.
- Respond to accidents, incidents, emergencies, and service disruptions in the field; conduct preliminary investigations, coordinate response efforts, document findings, and implement corrective actions as appropriate.
- Participate in the development, implementation, interpretations, and ongoing evaluation of division safety policies, procedures and safety plans and identifies safety trends and recommends appropriate policy, procedural or corrective action changes.
- Ensure operators comply with uniform, license, endorsement, and safety requirements.
- Support reasonable suspicion procedures and post-accident processes.
- Conduct daily mirror station evaluations and ensure each operator completes a documented mirror station check at least once per week.
- Promote a positive safety culture through proactive coaching and intervention.
- Performs other duties and special assignments as required by management in support of operational, safety, training, and customer service objectives.
- Directly supervises, coaches, develops, and holds fixed-route operators accountable for safety, service, and performance.
- Participates in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts; provides recommendations on hiring, promotion, transfer, and termination decisions.
- Administers the CBA and progressive discipline process, conducts investigations, documents performance issues, and recommends corrective action.
- Provides hands-on field coaching, mentoring, and training to improve safety, customer service, attendance, and regulatory compliance.
- Assists with operator assignments, training schedules, staffing plans, and daily workforce deployment.
- Exercises independent judgment in supervising employees and recommending personnel actions in accordance with company policies and labor agreements.
Requirements

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement
- Minimum of at least two years of fixed-route transit operating experience.
- Clean driving record.
- Strong knowledge of transit safety, customer service, ADA requirements, and fixed-route operations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power BI, and other business reporting tools.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data, generate reports, and communicate findings through dashboards and presentations.
- Ability to learn and effectively utilize the division's Computer-Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) system and other transit technology platforms.
- Capable of using technology to monitor service performance, investigate incidents, track operator performance, and support operational decision-making.
Nice to Have

- Experience conducting accident investigations.
- Knowledge of FTA, DOT, ADA, and OSHA regulations.
