Job Description

The Director of Procurement provides strategic leadership for the organization’s sourcing, supplier management, contracting, and purchasing activities. This role develops and executes procurement strategies that improve cost, quality, service, innovation, and supply continuity while ensuring strong controls, ethical practices, and alignment with business objectives. The Director partners closely with operations, finance, product management, and other functional leaders to build a resilient, high-performing supply base.

Responsibilities

  • →Develop and lead the Genpak’s direct and indirect procurement strategy, operating model, policies, and annual priorities.
  • →Translate business plans, demand forecasts, and market intelligence into category and sourcing strategies.
  • →Lead competitive sourcing, supplier selection, negotiation, contracting, and implementation for direct and indirect spending.
  • →Deliver measurable savings, cost avoidance, working-capital improvement, and total-cost-of-ownership benefits without compromising quality or service.
  • →Establish supplier segmentation, scorecards, business reviews, corrective-action processes, and continuous-improvement programs.
  • →Identify and mitigate supply, geopolitical, capacity, financial, compliance, and single-source risks; maintain appropriate contingency plans.
  • →Partner with operations, finance, engineering, quality, legal, sales, and other stakeholders to balance cost, availability, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • →Oversee contract governance, approval workflows, delegated authority, purchase-order compliance, and procurement controls.
  • →Set clear performance expectations and develop a capable, accountable procurement team through coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
  • →Use spend analytics, should-cost models, benchmarks, and procurement technology to improve decisions, visibility, and process efficiency.
  • →Support new-product introductions, capital projects, make-versus-buy decisions, supplier transitions, and other strategic initiatives.
  • →Promote ethical sourcing, responsible supplier practices, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • →Prepare executive-level reporting on performance, risks, opportunities, and major supplier or sourcing decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, finance, engineering, operations, or a related field.
  • Ten or more years of progressive procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain, or category-management experience, including at least five years leading teams.
  • Demonstrated success managing significant spend and delivering sustainable financial and operational results.
  • Strong experience with supplier negotiations, contract development, category strategy, and supplier performance management.
  • Working knowledge of procurement controls, risk management, analytics, and enterprise resource planning or source-to-pay systems.
  • Willingness to travel as business needs require.
  • Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Experience in a multi-site, manufacturing, distribution, or similarly complex operating environment.
  • Experience in Plastics industry or Packaging industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of global sourcing, logistics, commodities, or supplier quality practices.
