The Associate Scientist (Management Trainee) – Molecular Biology, Gene Production Department position is designed for recent graduates with strong learning agility, leadership potential, and an interest in laboratory operations and team management.
This role provides structured training in gene synthesis production, laboratory operations, continuous improvement, and leadership development. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced team leaders and supervisors to develop the technical and managerial skills required for future leadership positions within the organization.
The estimated salary range is $60,000 - $75,000, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Participate in daily molecular biology production activities, including gene synthesis and related laboratory processes.
- Learn and follow laboratory SOPs, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Support production goals to ensure quality, productivity, and on-time delivery targets are achieved.
- Assist with routine troubleshooting and process optimization activities.
- Gain hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, automation platforms, and production workflows.
- Assist team leaders and supervisors in coordinating daily activities.
- Support workload planning and task execution.
- Participate in cross-functional communication and collaboration.
- Help maintain a positive and productive team environment.
- Complete structured training programs in molecular biology production, quality systems, and laboratory operations.
- Participate in cross-training opportunities across different production functions.
- Develop technical expertise in gene synthesis workflows and related processes.
- Learn leadership fundamentals, communication skills, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Participate in Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and operational performance.
- Support 5S and laboratory organization activities.
- Contribute to process standardization and best-practice implementation.
- Learn root cause analysis methodologies and structured problem-solving approaches.
- Assist in investigating production issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Participate in process improvement projects and performance monitoring activities.
- Develop foundational leadership and project management skills.
- Participate in mentoring and coaching programs.
- Lead small improvement projects under supervision.
- Build capabilities in communication, coordination, decision-making, and team collaboration.
- Prepare for future advancement into Team Lead and Supervisor roles.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with relevant work experience will also be considered.
- Prior experience in molecular cloning techniques (e.g., plasmid construction, restriction digestion, ligation, PCR, transformation) is highly preferred.
- Hands-on experience in a laboratory or production setting is a plus.
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is preferred.
- Fast learner with the ability to quickly adapt to new techniques and protocols.
- Must be able to work on-site in Piscataway, NJ.

- Master's degree in biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, or a related scientific field.
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- No prior industry experience required.
- Laboratory internship, undergraduate research, capstone projects, or student leadership experience is preferred.
- Exposure to molecular biology techniques is a plus.
- Strong learning ability and willingness to develop new skills.
