OBJECTIVE: The Operations Engineer will be responsible for providing support in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power plant to enable the proper and continuous distribution of power to customers. The role includes assisting in the operation of the Steam Turbine Generator (STG), associated auxiliary systems, and the plant’s water treatment systems while upholding the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence. The Operations Engineer will also support the monitoring, treatment, and quality control of all process water systems to ensure optimal plant performance and equipment protection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
PLANT OPERATIONS
- Operate and closely monitor the Steam Turbine Generator (STG) and associated auxiliary systems to maintain stable and efficient power generation.
- Track and interpret key operational parameters including steam pressure, temperature, turbine speed, vibration levels, lubrication conditions, and condenser performance to ensure optimum turbine health.
- Support safe execution of unit start-ups, shutdowns, loading, and normal operation in coordination with the Shift Charge Engineer.
- Monitor and optimize Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and steam cycle performance within the combined cycle process.
EQUIPMENT MONITORING & TROUBLESHOOTING
- Identify abnormal operating conditions, respond to alarms, and initiate first-level troubleshooting to prevent equipment damage or system interruptions.
- Assist in diagnosing operational issues related to turbines, generators, condensers, feedwater systems, and auxiliary equipment.
- Conduct plant walkdowns, inspect equipment conditions, and escalate emerging issues promptly.
PERFORMANCE & EFFICIENCY SUPPORT
- Collect, analyze, and report plant operational data to support performance tracking and continuous improvement of STG and steam cycle efficiency.
- Assist in evaluating operational trends and recommending optimization actions to improve reliability and performance.
WATER TREATMENT OPERATIONS
- Monitor and operate plant water treatment systems including RO/demineralization units, filtration systems, and chemical dosing equipment.
- Conduct routine water quality tests (pH, conductivity, hardness, silica, DO) for boiler feedwater, condensate, and cooling water systems.
- Adjust chemical dosing and water treatment parameters to maintain proper water chemistry and protect HRSG, boiler, and condenser systems from corrosion, scaling, and fouling.
- Maintain accurate logs of water chemistry results, chemical consumption, and operational conditions, and escalate abnormalities promptly.
SAFETY, COMPLIANCE & PROCEDURES
- Ensure strict adherence to plant operating procedures, safety regulations, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM), Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and Management of Change (MOC) reviews.
- Support the implementation of safe operating practices, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and other critical safety processes.
- Work to achieve our goal of “Zero Accidents”
REPORTING & DOCUMENTATION
- Maintain accurate shift logs, operational records, equipment status updates, and incident reports.
- Contribute to operational documentation, technical reports, and data for audits or performance reviews.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BSc in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 2+ years of experience in operations of power or heavy process engineering plants.
- Working knowledge of Steam Turbine Generators (STG), HRSG operations, condensers, feedwater systems, cooling water circuits, and auxiliary plant equipment.
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and plant monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants, including Process Safety Management, OSHA regulations, EPA regulations, EEOC guidelines, and other federal and local requirements.
