  • Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, pharmacology, or a related field, and at least one year of hands-on laboratory research experience (undergraduate research experience qualifies)
  • Must be able to work with live animals (rodents), follow detailed written protocols, and keep accurate records.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with rodent handling, dosing, behavioral testing, or stereotaxic surgery; experience with histology, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence microscopy; familiarity with EEG or electrophysiological data; working knowledge of data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, ImageJ/FIJI, MATLAB, Python, or R); and prior completion of IACUC/CITI animal research training.

 


The Research Technician supports NIH-funded research in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Forcelli, which studies the brain circuits that control seizures and the long-term effects of early-life exposure to anti-seizure and psychiatric medications on brain development and behavior. The technician carries out in vivo experiments in rodents, performs histological processing and microscopy, manages and analyzes experimental data, and keeps the laboratory, animal colony, and regulatory records running smoothly so that the lab’s research projects progress on schedule.

 


  • Conducting in vivo rodent experiments, including drug administration, behavioral testing, stereotaxic surgery, and EEG/seizure monitoring.
  • Processing brain tissue for histology and immunohistochemistry, and acquiring and quantifying microscope images.
  • Organizing, curating, and analyzing experimental data (behavior, EEG, histology) and preparing summaries for the PI and lab members.
  • Managing breeding colonies and maintaining animal-use records in compliance with IACUC protocols.
  • Ordering supplies, reconciling charges, maintaining equipment, and supporting general laboratory operations.

 


The Research Technician works within the Forcelli Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology and reports directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Patrick Forcelli, Professor and Chair. The technician works day to day with the lab’s postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D. students, and undergraduate researchers, and interacts with Department of Comparative Medicine (vivarium) staff, core facilities, and departmental administrative staff for purchasing and grant administration. This position has no direct reports. By enabling rigorous, reproducible research on epilepsy and developmental neuropharmacology, the position advances Georgetown University’s mission of research, education, and service to improve human health.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$18.40 - $27.09

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
