In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.

 

To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:

 

General Foreman Dewatering

 

The General Foreman - Dewatering is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all mine dewatering activities required to support mining operations.

Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the role ensures that pit dewatering systems, water management infrastructure, and pumping operations are maintained and operated effectively to provide safe access to mining areas and minimize production disruptions caused by water accumulation.

The General Foreman leads field teams to ensure optimal utilization of dewatering equipment, compliance with environmental requirements, and adherence to safety and operational standards.

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Execute the mine dewatering plan.
  • Manage pumps, HDPE pipelines, fusing machines, sumps and drainage systems.
  • Ensure adequate pumping capacity and effective water removal from active mining areas.
  • Monitor water inflows and support water balance forecasting to ensure adequate pumping capacity and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinate installation and relocation of dewatering infrastructure.
  • Ensure surface runoff is diverted away from the pit.
  • Infrastructure & Environmental Compliance
  • Maintain drainage ditches, diversion channels and cofferdams.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and water discharge requirements.
  • Manage stormwater during heavy rainfall events.
  • Operations & Equipment Management
  • Supervise dewatering crews.
  • Coordinate pumps, fusing machines, excavators, dozers and support equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Safety Leadership
  • Promote a strong safety culture.
  • Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with HSE standards.
  • Manage risks associated with water management and flooding events.
  • Lead and coordinate emergency response activities during extreme rainfall and flooding events to ensure personnel safety, protect mining infrastructure, and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Planning & Communication
  • Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Geology, Maintenance and Environment.
  • Participate in planning meetings and communicate operational constraints.
  • Work closely with the Short-Term Mine Planner to identify and determine optimal sump locations as mining progresses.
  • Cost Control & Inventory Management
  • Monitor and control dewatering operating costs and resource utilization.
  • Forecast and identify critical spare parts, consumables, and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure adequate inventory levels of pumps, HDPE pipes, fittings, and other critical dewatering components.
  • Coordinate procurement requests to prevent operational disruptions caused by stock shortages.
  • Participate in budget preparation and cost optimization initiatives related to dewatering activities.

Maintain contingency plans and critical spare inventories to ensure uninterrupted dewatering operations



Qualifications/Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Mining, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7–10 years of experience in open pit mining and mine dewatering operations.
  • Strong understanding of water management, pumping systems, drainage control, and environmental compliance.



Working Conditions

  • Position based at the OKO Project site. 
  • Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
