In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.

To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:

Truck Driver- HFO Tanker

The HFO Tanker Driver is responsible for the safe transport of Heavy Fuel Oil between Oko Barge Landing and the Oko Mine site power plant. HFO is a viscous, high-temperature petroleum product that requires specialized handling — heated tanks, specific transfer procedures, and strict contamination prevention. Unlike standard fuel transport, HFO operations involve managing tank heating systems, monitoring viscosity and temperature during transit, and coordinating with the power plant team for proper offloading. This is a specialized role requiring disciplined, safety-focused operators who understand the unique hazards of heavy fuel oil.

Key Responsibilities

    • Safely operate HFO tanker trucks for the transport of Heavy Fuel Oil between Oko Barge Landing and the mine site power plant.
    • Monitor and manage tank heating systems during transit to maintain proper HFO temperature and viscosity for safe offloading.
    • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections specific to HFO tanker operations — check heating elements, insulation, tank valves, hoses, seals, grounding cables, vents, and emergency shutoffs.
    • Complete all HFO transfer documentation — fuel transfer forms, temperature readings (loading and offloading), volume measurements, and delivery receipts.
    • Connect grounding/bonding cables before every loading and unloading operation. Verify static grounding before opening valves.
    • Coordinate with the power plant team at the mine site for offloading schedules, tank readiness, and transfer procedures.
    • Coordinate with barge operations for HFO receiving at the wharf — monitor barge-to-tank transfers, verify quantities, and document receipts.
    • Maintain spill kits specific to HFO (higher viscosity requires different containment materials) and ensure they are fully stocked and accessible.
    • Monitor for leaks during transport — HFO leaks are harder to detect and harder to clean up than standard fuel. Any suspected leak requires immediate stop and inspection.
    • Enforce no-smoking and ignition source exclusion zones around the tanker during all operations.
    • Maintain the HFO tanker heating system, insulation, and transfer equipment in proper working condition. Report maintenance needs immediately.
    • Assist with HFO tank farm operations at the barge landing and mine site when not on transport runs.
    • Respond to HFO spill emergencies following the site spill response plan — HFO spills require specialized containment and cleanup procedures.
    • Participate in daily toolbox talks and comply with all HSE and environmental policies.

    Qualifications/Skills and Experience

    • Minimum 3 years of experience operating tanker trucks, with specific experience in heavy fuel oil, bitumen, or heated petroleum product transport.
    • Valid Guyana driver’s license with appropriate class for heavy vehicles / tankers.
    • Knowledge of HFO properties — viscosity, temperature requirements, flash point, and handling hazards.
    • Experience with heated tanker systems — tank heaters, insulation monitoring, and temperature management during transit.
    • Strong knowledge of fuel handling safety protocols — static grounding, vapor management, emergency shutoff procedures, and spill containment.
    • Experience with fuel transfer documentation and volume measurement.
    • Clean driving record with no major incidents involving hazardous materials.
    • Good communication skills for coordination with dispatch, fuel teams, and power plant personnel.
    • Physically fit for the demands of the role including hose handling and outdoor work in tropical conditions.
    • Direct experience with HFO transport for mine site or power plant operations.
    • Hazardous materials transport certification or formal HAZMAT training.
    • Experience with bulk HFO receiving from barges or marine vessels.
    • Experience working in Guyana’s interior mining operations.
    • Knowledge of environmental spill response specific to heavy petroleum products.
    • Understanding of power plant fuel requirements and delivery scheduling.
    • Basic mechanical knowledge for field troubleshooting of tanker heating systems.
    • First Aid / CPR certification.

    Working Conditions

    • Remote site location accessible primarily by river.
    • Outdoor work in tropical climate with exposure to sun, rain, dust, and rough road conditions.
    • 14 days on / 7 days off rotation.
    • Campground accommodation provided on site.
    • Haul road between barge landing and mine site includes steep grades, river crossings, and unpaved sections requiring constant vigilance.
    • Must be available for extended hours during critical operations (barge arrivals, urgent deliveries).
    • Exposure to HFO vapors and heated petroleum products requiring strict PPE compliance (gloves, face shield, coveralls).
    • Burns risk from heated tank surfaces and product — HFO is transported at elevated temperatures.
    • Zero tolerance for safety violations — HFO transport infractions are grounds for immediate removal from site.

    Compensation Package

    • Permanent, full-time role
    • Competitive Salary
    • Competitive benefits, bonus and group insurances.
