In essence, an insurance verification specialist is responsible for verifying accurate insurance benefit information in a timely manner. The position may be located in physician offices, hospitals, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities
The pay for this role is $32/hr-$34/hr
The hours for this role are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Benefit Verification: Contacting insurance carriers or utilizing payer portals to verify active coverage, deductibles, co-pays, and network status prior to appointments.

Patient Communication: Notifying patients of their out-of-pocket costs, explaining coverage details, and setting up payment arrangements.

Clear communication of patient benefit information relayed to intake and billing teams.

Documentation: Accurately updating billing systems and electronic health records (HER) with verified demographic and insurance policy data.

Dispute Resolution: Collaborate with clinical staff, provider offices, and insurance companies to resolve billing discrepancies or missing information.

In addition to these general duties, an individual employer may request that you perform other duties that fit with your training and background experience or provide further training for new duties.
Requirements

High school diploma required, and bachelor’s degree preferred

Understanding medical terminology, medical billing practices, and HIPAA privacy regulations.

Ability to clearly explain financial responsibilities to patients and negotiate with insurance carriers.

Proficiency in practice management software, web-based payer portals and Microsoft Office.

2 years of billing and reimbursement experience preferred.

Ability to be self-directed in accomplishing the coordination and decision-making responsibilities of this position and be resourceful in problem solving.

Knowledge of insurance regulations, billing, and reimbursement requirements.

Knowledge of Medicare, MA, HMO, and insurance coverage determinations, including Medicare secondary payer information.

Basic understanding of ICD-10 coding concepts and resources
