Chief Nursing Officer

Role Summary

Role Responsibilities

1. Interpret national health policies to advise Ministry on nursing actions to be implemented to ensure policy goals and/or strategies are achieved.

 2. Contribute to national health policies to ensure standardisation of health care. 

3. Communicate relevant nursing information to all nursing grades to ensure flow of information. 

4. Prepare information reports for Ministry and other stakeholders in regards to international policy changes to ensure local policies are kept relevant.

5. Measure nursing care standards in both private and public sectors via Nursing Sensitive Indicators to ensure the same quality of care is available. 

6. Prepare and reform nursing laws to ensure the on-going development of nursing regulations. 

7. Manage the Ministry’s nursing scholarship programme. 

8. Provide leadership to the Nurses and Midwives Council to ensure continuity of nursing practices. 

9. Assist in the development of a code of conduct and practice for Nurses. 

10. Liaise with international nursing organisations to ensure understanding of international policies and practices. 

11. Identify job specific and environmental factors and develop, where applicable, implement and promote the health and safety policies. Mitigate and minimise workplace hazards. 

12. Perform any other related duties as required by Supervisor or any other senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Ministry.

Minimum Qualification & Experience:

•  Registered Nurse 
•  Master’s Degree in Nursing with a focus on Administration, Leadership and/or Public Health
•  Five (5) to seven (7) years clinical experience

Knowledge & Skills:

• Excellent knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures 
• Excellent knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, procedures and policies 
• Expert knowledge of health policy, nursing education and health research 
• Expert knowledge of the BVI healthcare system 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills 
• Good knowledge of the use of standard office equipment and computer applications 
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills 
• Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
• Ability to work well under pressure 
• Excellent management skills

Annual Salary – Grade 16 (Step 1)
$75,284.00 per annum

Allowances

Travel Allowance: $2,600.00 per annum
Housing Allowance: $9,438.00 per annum (for persons recruited outside the BVI, including BVI Islanders)
General Specialisation Allowance: $10,000.00 per annum

Gratuity (15%)
$11,292.60 per annum

Total Compensation Package
$108,614.60 per annum
