~1 min readWithout supervision, will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance and/or rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours necessary and without re-work. As directed this position will entail, estimating work orders and preparing written quotes for submission to the Lead Person or Service Supervisor. Will troubleshoot mechanical problems in Caterpillar and other products.
- Troubleshoots mechanical issues in Caterpillar and other manufacturer’s products.
- Makes warranty recommendations and prepare reports when performing warranty service jobs.
- Reconditions or overhauls major components to manufacturer’s specifications.
- May assist other team members with creating parts lists for projects or overhauls.
- Recommends action to correct the failure or problem.
- Adheres strictly to HPS safety, housekeeping, credit and other rules, policies and procedures.
- Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers and personnel from other HPS departments.
- Takes scheduled fluid samples and performs fluid maintenance.
- Uses all test and diagnostic equipment to diagnose
ssystem and component failures and make adjustments to engines and systems. - Performs equipment condition reporting.
- Informs management and other team members of pertinent information such as procedures, policies, changes which is received from other employees, customers or factory reps if deemed appropriate.
- Analyzes all Caterpillar and related Power Generation equipment systems and components for proper operation in arrangement application based on theory of design.
- Demonstrates proficiency in reading technical data and schematic drawings.
- Supports other departments within the Power Systems Division with various projects ranging from preventative maintenance to overhauls.
- Conducts customer training in proper use of engine or generator equipment.
- Performs mounting system and alignment checks and adjustments.
- Sets up and records vibration data for analysis, be able to review data and make corrective actions.
- Perform plumbing, generator alignment and D.C. electric repairs.
- Guide/mentor/train technicians with less expertise in the repairs of Caterpillar machines and systems.
- Completes training classes as directed and obtains passing grades in all.
- Adhere to timekeeping policies and procedures
- Adhere to secure reporting policies and procedures
- Other Duties as assigned.
- Must have a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Minimum or equivalent of ten (10) years experience in the repair or maintenance of Industrial / Electrical Power Generation/ Marine power generation equipment
- Expertise in all phases of Caterpillar service operation.
- Full and positive knowledge of the Caterpillar product line.
- High school graduate or equivalent (i.e. G.E.D) or can provide verification of formal classroom study or hands on experience related to related equipment repairs.
- Furnish all hand tools required to repair, test and diagnose hydraulic, air, power train, electrical, and electronic systems on Caterpillar equipment.
NOTE: Some high dollar value tooling is supplied by Hawthorne Machinery Co.
- Mobility: Ability to walk and move about on foot often through uneven terrain.
- Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
- Handling: Works with hands.
- Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools. May lift up to 50 lbs. with frequent exertion.
- Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
- Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
- Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
- Climbing: In and out of equipment.
- Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operate generator/industrial engine equipment.
- Talking: Communicates via telecommunications and in person.
- Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication via telecommunications and in person.
- Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
- Lying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
- Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
- Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
- Exposure: Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
