~1 min readUnder the supervision of the Service Manager, the Field Hydraulic Hose Technician is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing hydraulic hoses and systems directly at customer sites and in the field. This role requires travel to various job locations to perform hose repairs, and hose replacement on equipment, while ensuring minimal downtime for customers. The Field Technician will have a strong understanding of hydraulic principles, hose specifications, and safety standards, and will serve as a front-line representative of Hawthorne Machinery Company.
- Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
- Travels to customer sites in a fully equipped field service truck to provide on-site hydraulic hose service and support.
- Fabricate hydraulic hoses according to specifications, including measuring, cutting, and crimping hoses.
- Assemble and install hose fittings, ensuring proper connections and leak-free operation.
- Inspect and repair damaged hydraulic hoses and lines, determining the extent of the damage and the necessary repairs.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic system issues related to hoses and fittings in the field.
- Perform preventative maintenance on hydraulic hose assemblies and associated components.
- Identify hose specifications and select appropriate hoses and fittings for various applications.
- Responsible to maintain hose van inventory records, usage, and restocking orders.
- Maintain accurate records of field service calls, service reports, repairs, and installations.
- Utilize Cat Interact and ServiceLink (computer programs) and other online tools as required.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations OSHA/MSHA and procedures on customer job sites.
- Maintain a clean and organized field service truck and tools.
- Communicate effectively with customers and team members, providing exceptional service and support.
- Must be available to work after hours and weekends as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Vocational training or certification in hydraulics is preferred.
- 6 months to 1 year of proven experience as a Hydraulic Hose Technician or in a similar role.
- Must have valid California Driver’s License with a clean record.
- Furnish all hand tools required to remove, install, repair, hydraulic hoses and related systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of hydraulic systems and components.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools, including crimping machines and measuring equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while on customer sites.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
- Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
- Handling: Works with hands.
- Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools. Lifts to 60 pounds. Frequent exertion.
- Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
- Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
- Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
- Climbing: In and out of equipment.
- Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
- Talking: Communicates via telecommunications and in person.
- Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication via telecommunications and in person.
- Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
- Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
- Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
- Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
- Exposure: Foul orders, fumes and harsh substances.
