Employment: Full-Time | Location: Los Angeles, CA 90016 | Pay range: $25-$27

Position Summary

The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) supports comprehensive FQHC dental care through authorized clinical procedures, chairside assistance, and patient care coordination. Procedures require appropriate training, verified competency, dentist authorization, and supervision consistent with California law and the supervising dentist’s determination.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients, treatment rooms, instruments, and materials; provide chairside assistance during preventive, restorative, and other dental procedures.
  • Collect and document health history, medications, allergies, and patient concerns; communicate relevant findings to the dentist without independently diagnosing.
  • Take dental radiographs with required radiation safety training; capture intraoral and extraoral photographs and maintain usable images in the patient record.
  • Perform mouth-mirror inspections and document obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth for dentist review.
  • Perform coronal polishing and apply pit and fissure sealants when authorized, with required training verified and the dentist-assigned supervision in place.
  • When included in clinic services and assigned by the dentist, place bases, liners, etch, and bonding agents; place, adjust, and finish direct provisional restorations; and fabricate, adjust, cement, and remove indirect provisional restorations within the RDA scope.
  • Apply topical fluoride and perform other delegated duties only under the applicable supervision and within verified qualifications.
  • Follow infection prevention procedures; disinfect treatment areas, process instruments, maintain sterilization records, and support equipment and supply readiness.
  • Document services accurately and promptly; route records for provider review and support complete documentation for coding and billing.
  • Reinforce dentist-approved preventive and post-treatment instructions; coordinate referrals and follow-up with dental, medical, and patient support teams.
  • Provide respectful care to patients of different ages, languages, and backgrounds; arrange approved interpreter support and help address barriers to care.
  • Participate in quality improvement, safety reporting, and emergency readiness. Assist with staff orientation and workflow training as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Current, active California Registered Dental Assistant license, maintained throughout employment, with compliance with applicable renewal and continuing education requirements.
  • Current BLS certification; documentation of required radiation safety, infection control, and Dental Practice Act training.
  • Documentation of required education for sealants and any additional assigned procedures; demonstrated competency confirmed by the supervising dentist.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; strong clinical organization, communication, EHR skills, dependable attendance, and commitment to patient safety.

Preferred Qualifications and Working Conditions

Pit and fissure sealant certification from a Board-approved course is a plus. FQHC experience, pediatric and adult dentistry, and bilingual skills relevant to the community preferred. Work involves patient contact, repetitive hand movements, sitting and standing, and handling clinical equipment, with reasonable accommodation as needed. Protect patient privacy and follow health center policies. This role does not independently diagnose, plan treatment, prescribe, or perform duties reserved for other license categories.
