Director / Senior Director, Engineering, Core UX & Growth

Hover serves some of the largest contractors and insurance carriers in the country, and a fast-growing base of small businesses discovering us for the first time. As we evolve from point solutions into an end-to-end platform, we need a product that feels coherent, intuitive, and easy to do business with from the very first interaction. We're looking for a Director or Senior Director of Engineering to lead Core UX, Growth, and Billing Systems: the foundational experiences that define what it feels like to be a Hover customer. You'll make sure we ship a seamless platform, not our org chart, and you'll help unlock the small-business market through product-led growth, so a contractor can discover Hover, get set up, see value, choose the right plan, and grow with us without needing a high-touch sales motion.

You'll own the engineering strategy for Hover's shared customer experience, including signup, authentication, organization and team management, roles and permissions, sharing, account management, and core navigation, turning them into a polished, reliable, and accessible product system. You'll build Hover's self-service growth engine with Product, Design, Data, Marketing, and GTM, removing friction across acquisition, activation, conversion, expansion, and retention, with a disciplined experimentation and measurement loop that compounds over time. You'll lead the Billing Systems that power plans, entitlements, subscriptions, payments, and pricing, partnering with Finance, GTM, Support, and Legal so our commercial systems enable new products and business models. As a true Product, Design, and Engineering partner, you'll bring opinions about what we should build, challenge assumptions, and share accountability for outcomes. You'll build and develop a high-performing organization and use AI to change both what we build and how we build it.

• Set a high bar for usability, accessibility, performance, reliability, instrumentation, and maintainability while helping teams move quickly
• Hire, coach, and give direct feedback; address gaps quickly and keep team structure and seniority matched to the problems we need to solve
• Explore where AI can transform onboarding, personalization, self-service, and support, and redesign engineering workflows from discovery through operations
• Connect engineering investments to activation, retention, conversion, revenue, support burden, and operational cost

• Significant experience building customer-facing software products at scale, including leading multiple engineering teams, senior engineers, and ideally engineering managers
• A track record of building high-performing engineering organizations through strong hiring, coaching, clear expectations, and effective performance management
• Strong product judgment: you've repeatedly influenced what gets built, not only how, as a genuine Product, Design, and Engineering partner with shared accountability for outcomes
• Strong business judgment: you can reason about customer segments, growth, pricing, and commercial constraints
• T-shaped technical leadership across frontend, backend, APIs, data, architecture, reliability, and security, with enough depth to improve important technical decisions
• Experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional problems and moving comfortably between multi-year strategy and operational detail
• Genuine curiosity about AI, with examples of turning new capabilities into practical product or engineering improvements

• Product-led growth, self-service SaaS, onboarding, activation, or experimentation experience, especially with small businesses or a mix of SMB and enterprise customers
• Billing, subscriptions, payments, pricing, or entitlement systems experience
• B2B products with organizations, teams, roles, and permissions, or shared platform teams spanning multiple product verticals

This role is open at the Director or Senior Director level based on experience.

Hover has Hubs in San Francisco and New York City, where we expect that all employees living within a 50-mile radius of our offices will come into their local Hover office at least three times a week to build rapport and foster organic connection. At this time, Hover is not considering fully remote roles.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is  $261,000 - $370,000 annually. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all applicable US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
