Medical Assistant Educator

We are seeking a confident, patient, and adaptable medical assistant professional to serve as the inaugural instructor for IU Health's new Medical Assistant training program. Teaching classes at the Mosaic Center in a full day didactic format across 14-week cohort cycles, this educator will shape the experience of the next generation of Medical Assistants entering IU Health. The program is new and evolving, and that is part of what makes this opportunity meaningful.

Reports to: VP, Clinical Workforce Development

Direct reports: None

Shift: Part time, Monday – Friday, onsite  

Location: Indianapolis, IN

The Scope: 

This role plans, delivers, and continuously improves the Medical Assistant education program at IU Health, including:

  • Teaching full day didactic coursework to Medical Assistant students at the Mosaic Center across 14-week cohort cycles
  • Using non-teaching days to review curriculum materials, identify resource gaps, and prepare for upcoming instruction
  • Handing off students to clinic teams for hands on clinical experience after didactic coursework is complete
  • Supporting student recruitment, screening, and background check coordination for incoming cohorts during gaps between active teaching cycles
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional materials in collaboration with the Clinical Workforce Development team
  • Assessing and diagnosing learner needs and adjusting teaching style and approach to different student audiences
  • Assisting in the development of student performance standards, admissions and selection processes, and program accreditation activities
  • Assisting in developing promotional materials for internal and external program awareness

 

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for this position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Associate's Degree is required. Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Requires 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires current certification in medical assistant program: (American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), National Health Center Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • Requires knowledge of adult education principles and applications.
  • Requires ability to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum and training resources.
  • Requires knowledge of computer software applications.
  • Requires the ability to assess and diagnose learner needs.
  • Requires 3-5 years of ambulatory experience, and 1 year of teaching experience or equivalent.
