Senior Staff Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Leader to drive the development and optimization of next-generation WLAN MAC solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in wireless communication systems, embedded software development, IEEE 802.11 standards, and low-level programming in Assembly and C. This role requires strong technical leadership to guide architecture, debugging, validation, and performance optimization activities while collaborating closely with global cross-functional teams across firmware, hardware, and system domains. The successful candidate will combine hands-on technical excellence with mentoring, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills to deliver innovative, high-performance wireless connectivity solutions. Your role Key responsibilities in your new role Design, develop, maintain, and optimize WLAN L-MAC microcode using custom assembly language for IEEE 802.11 standards. Drive system-level power optimization initiatives to ensure compliance with WLAN protocol and performance specifications. Perform pre-silicon verification of MAC-layer designs using scripting languages such as TCL and Python, validating functionality in simulation environments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including PHY Systems, Firmware, and Hardware Design teams to define, document, and verify interfaces with the L-MAC layer. Support silicon bring-up, validation, and performance tuning to achieve key MAC performance indicators, including packet processing latency and power-saving targets. Debug and resolve complex customer and product issues across multiple layers, including WLAN MAC, PHY, and Chip-level subsystems , ensuring effective root-cause analysis and resolution. Identify design, process, and workflow gaps, and drive improvements in architecture, methodologies, and engineering practices while ensuring adherence to established design flows. Propose and implement design enhancements to improve performance, quality, scalability, and product reliability. Mentor, coach, and train team members, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the organization. Create and maintain technical documentation, design collateral, training materials, and internal/external technical content as required. Work closely with stakeholders and global engineering teams to ensure successful project execution and product delivery. Contribute to continuous improvements in MAC architecture, system performance, verification methodologies, and overall product development lifecycle. Your profile Qualifications and skills to help you succeed  10+ years of industry experience with a Master’s degree, or 12+ years with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong expertise in Wireless Communication Systems, Embedded Systems, and low-level software/firmware development. Proven hands-on experience in Assembly Language and C programming for real-time and performance-critical wireless applications. Deep understanding of  IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) standards, protocols, MAC architecture, and feature implementation. Strong experience in Wi-Fi protocol analysis, debugging, and performance optimization  using tools such as Wireshark  and other industry-standard diagnostic tools. Demonstrated expertise in silicon bring-up, system validation, and root-cause analysis within complex embedded wireless systems. Advanced debugging and troubleshooting skills, including the use of GDB, crash dump analysis, stack trace investigation, and performance profiling tools. Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues across multiple layers spanning MAC, PHY, firmware, and SoC/chip subsystems. Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python  and Tcl; exposure to SystemC is a strong advantage. Strong understanding of software development methodologies, verification flows , and engineering best practices. Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, drive innovation, and influence architecture and design decisions. Experience working effectively within global, cross-functional, and matrixed engineering organizations. Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
