Position Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports a multidisciplinary mental health team by providing clinical, administrative, and patient‑centered services. This role ensures smooth clinic operations, promotes a safe and therapeutic environment, and enhances the overall patient experience. The CMA works closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, nurses, therapists, and administrative staff. Must be AAMA or AMT Certified.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Support

  • Prepare patients for psychiatric and medical evaluations, including obtaining vital signs, medication lists, and relevant health history.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and crisis‑related clinical tasks within scope of practice.
  • Perform routine screenings (e.g., depression, anxiety, substance use) using standardized tools.
  • Maintain exam rooms, stock supplies, and ensure infection‑control compliance.
  • Support medication management processes, including refill requests, prior authorizations, coordinate labs, and pharmacy coordination.

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and support front‑desk operations as needed.
  • Document clinical encounters accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Handle patient communications, including phone calls, messages, and follow‑up reminders.
  • Assist with insurance verification, billing documentation, and completion of required forms.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and mental‑health‑specific privacy standards.

Patient Care & Support

  • Provide trauma‑informed, empathetic interactions with patients experiencing emotional distress.
  • Offer education on medications, treatment plans, and clinic processes under provider guidance.
  • Monitor patient safety in waiting and clinical areas, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Support coordination of care with external providers, hospitals, and community resources.
