As a Powder Processing Process Engineering Intern, you’ll work alongside Engineering and Operations teams to improve powder processing operations, develop innovative process solutions, and support automation initiatives. You’ll apply your engineering knowledge to hands-on projects focused on material characterization, process improvement, and manufacturing efficiency.
Depending on your project assignment, you may:
- Create and analyze seeded heat compacts using BPO materials to support an updated fingerprint database.
- Develop a process to limit open-air dumping of revert powder from screening to VIM.
- Support implementation of the auto-feed program in screening to improve process efficiency and consistency.
- Analyze process and material data to identify opportunities for quality and process improvement.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to develop and implement practical improvements to powder processing operations.
- Hands-on experience with powder processing and specialty materials manufacturing.
- Practical experience with material characterization, process analysis, and process development.
- Exposure to screening, revert powder handling, and VIM processes.
- Experience supporting automation and process efficiency initiatives.
- Opportunities to apply engineering principles to real-world manufacturing challenges.
- Experience collaborating with Engineering and Operations teams on process improvement projects.
- Experience analyzing materials and process data to support quality, consistency, and operational improvements.
- Potential opportunity to transition into a full-time Process Engineering or related Engineering position at ATI after graduation.
Requirements

- Materials Science & Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Related Engineering discipline
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in powder processing, materials manufacturing, and process improvement.
- Ability to analyze data and evaluate process performance.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Engineering and Operations teams.
- Willingness to work in a manufacturing and plant environment.
