The Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) Unit at IOM Algeria supports relevant Government authorities in enhancing their capacities to manage border governance. Current and upcoming interventions include capacity building, equipment and infrastructure provision, policy support, and initiatives related to International Migration Law (IML), rule of law, rights-based border management, Integrated Border Management (IBM), Humanitarian Border Management (HBM), countering cross-border crime, legal identity, and cross-border cooperation in support of humane and orderly migration.
- Assist the IBG Programme officer in the implementation of assessments, capacity building and technical assistance activities, including training preparation and delivery under the IBG Programme.
- Provide information on the Programme as requested and draft minutes of meetings, reports (external and internal reports) and other written materials/documents related to the Programme deliverables.
- Liaise with other IOM staff members on administration, financial, logistics and operational matters in support of Programme activities.
- Contribute to the development and standardization of templates (reports, questionnaires, surveys, profiles, application, feedback and interviewing forms and others) related to the IBG Programme.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

- The Intern will gain experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
- Gain experience in organization, management, and international cooperation activities.
- Gain a better understanding of IOM’s work, as an inter-governmental organization in the field of Migration, and work on formulating and editing institutional strategies, priorities and workplans.
- The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM personnel.
- The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and IOM Missions.
- Enhance professional communication skills by drafting meeting minutes, reports, and other programme-related documentation.
- Build interpersonal skills through liaison with cross-functional teams at IOM, on administrative, financial, logistical, and operational matters.
- Strengthen adaptability, problem-solving, and time-management skills, by supporting multiple programme tasks, in a fast-paced environment.
- Increase understanding of humanitarian, migration, and development programming frameworks and operational practices.
- Strengthen organizational and coordination skills through involvement in training preparation, scheduling, logistics, and stakeholder engagement.
Requirements
~1 min read- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Political Science, Human Rights, or a related field;
- Enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Political Science, or a related field; or,
- Recent graduate with a degree in Human Rights, or a related field (internship must commence within one year of graduation).
- Demonstrated experience in note-taking and drafting comprehensive and accurate meeting minutes;
- Proven experience in organizing workshops, training sessions, and capacity-building activities;
- Experience in preparing official correspondence, including meeting invitations and follow-up communications;
Demonstrated experience in drafting Terms of Reference (ToRs), concept notes, and analytical or technical reports.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills;
- Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to draft clearly and concisely;
Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds and respect for diversity and gender equality.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages. For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Responsibilities
~2 min readDepending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
