Software Developer

Description

As a Software Developer on our Product Development team, you'll work with a group of talented developers and product managers to take new product ideas from concept to production features that our users love. You'll work closely with Product Managers to understand customer problems and shape upcoming work, and you'll build with modern tooling, including AI coding assistants and agents, as an everyday part of how our team designs, builds, tests, and ships software.

Behind our platform is a suite of Laravel service APIs that power everything from surveys and checklists to mystery shopping and reporting. We keep them on current versions of PHP and Laravel, backed by MySQL and Redis and running on AWS, with an Angular front end in an Nx monorepo. You'll spend much of your time in these APIs: designing endpoints, modelling data, and building the queued jobs and integrations behind new features. If you haven't worked with Laravel before, that's fine; we'll help you get up to speed.

What you'll do:

• Interpret customer problems and requirements and work as part of a Product team to build solutions that add value for our customers and the product as a whole
• Collaborate with other team members to design and plan new product features and changes based on requirements
• Use AI coding tools day to day to explore the codebase, prototype ideas, write and test code, and speed up delivery, and help the team refine how we use them
• Provide input on, and implement improvements to, the tools and processes the team uses to develop, test, and ship user-facing features on a regular basis
• Participate in code reviews and help your team deliver high-quality software, holding AI-assisted changes to the same standard as any other code
• Champion all aspects of the user's experience, with a focus on clarity and speed
• Contribute to product ideation and planning
• Share what you learn with teammates, and learn from them in turn

What you'll need:

• Proficiency building production software, in whichever language and framework you know best
• Comfort using AI-assisted development tools in your day-to-day work, and the judgment to review, test, and take full ownership of what they produce
• Eagerness to learn new languages, frameworks, and tools, and to keep adapting as practices change
• Clear written communication, whether in a ticket, a design note, a code review, or a prompt
• Passion for working in teams with emphasis on respect and continuous improvement

Nice to have:

• Experience with PHP and Laravel, especially building APIs
• Experience working on production-level SaaS products
• Experience with TypeScript, Angular, HTML and CSS
• Familiarity with front-end build, package-management & testing tools such as Nx, Webpack, NPM, Jest, Playwright
• Experience with release management and CI/CD workflows
• Experience building and maintaining scalable products
• Experience building product features on top of LLM APIs

Success will be measured by:

• Consistent, on-time delivery of new product features and changes
• Clean, maintainable, well-tested code, whether you or an AI tool wrote the first draft
• Effective use of AI tools to move faster without lowering the quality bar
• Clear communication and collaboration within the team
• Self directed, takes ownership of tasks, stays apprised of broader team's work
