This position is responsible and accountable for installing the electronic, hardware, and wiring components of audio-visual racks and systems according to company standards. This position reports to the Design Manager and is a member of the Design and Engineering team supporting the mission and goals of a "Best in Class" sales and AV integration program.   As an operational member of a dynamic design and assembly operation, the AV Rack Builder Technician will work with minimal supervision to receive, inventory, assemble and install AV equipment into racks to comply with the company’s policies and procedures, including quality, safety, environmental, and business practices.

 

This is an hourly position that is based in the Franklinton, NC, warehouse. As a national company, opportunities to work at job sites across the country are also available.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for performing the process of receiving, inventorying, assembling, installing, commissioning and testing AV and other simple network equipment into AV racks with minimal supervision and oversight. This position requires a variety of duties including construction labor as well as electrical and electronic installation and repair but not limited to:

  • →Responsible for equipment rack fabrication for projects in accordance with wiring diagrams and standards for quality assurance
  • →Install components in rack according to engineering drawings
  • →Install cabling according to engineering drawings within the rack between components
  • →Build custom wiring harnesses from engineering drawings, which includes soldering, crimping, and assembling cable connectors as directed
  • →Builds custom stock cables and tests for workmanship
  • →Maintains rack fabrication build sheets for inventory used, including serial numbers, MAC addresses, firmware versions, and IP addresses if static
  • →Responsible for inventory asset accuracy and physical inventory discrepancies between system records and actual count
  • →Building, labeling, testing and shipping preparation for all client AV rack cabinets sent through Rack Fabrication
  • →Review AV documents provided by engineering staff to ensure appropriate documentation and design specifications are made available
  • →Act as primary liaison between AV Engineering Staff, Project Managers and Warehouse related to rack builds and equipment procurement
  • →Closely monitor information queues for all fabrication requests
  • →Effectively applies company methodology and enforces project standards
  • →Communicate with the warehouse team of when items are arriving and making sure they are properly signed out
  • →Assist in in-house production and quality control
  • →Read and evaluate rack elevations and drawings and communicate to engineering any potential issues
  • →Red line drawings and document any changes to system design
  • →Mock up AV systems for testing and programing
  • →Communicate needs in both consumables and stock to warehouse and purchasing
  • →Communicate project status and projected completion of projects to project manager and install technician
  • →Organize and maintain cleanliness of shop area, office area, and inventory
  • →Organize and maintain project bins/manuals
  • →Responsible for signing out AV stock to specific jobs
  • →Prepare materials to roll to the field when testing is complete
  • →Oversee the burn in process for monitors and projectors
  • →Moving and/or repositioning large equipment or wiring supplies. Individuals must be able to lift and carry heavy objects of 75 lbs. unassisted
  • →Trouble-shooting audio and video cabling
  • →Sanding, painting and other light construction jobs
  • →Working in confined spaces
  • →Providing some direction mentoring of other staff and technicians
  • →Performing other duties as assigned
  • High school degree required, college degree preferred
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and possess the ability to obtain access to US Military bases and Government facilities for projects which require background clearances
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the installation and commissioning of audiovisual systems
  • CTS certification is highly preferred
  • Prior experience in the integration of audiovisual, video conferencing and closely related technologies preferred
  • Successfully complete criminal background check, motor vehicle review and drug test prior to start
  • Able to read engineering drawings and follow directions
  • Ability to perform basic system component assembly (rack mounting) of electronic devices and install cabling according to company standards
  • Ability to power up and do basic test of device functionality
  • Highly organized, and effective with personal time management
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate in a direct, concise manner in both verbal and written interactions

  • Must be able to read engineering drawings (or learn how to) and follow directions

  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with standard office productivity software including Google, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to make important decisions under tight timelines and in a fast-paced environment

  • Valid driver’s license with less than two citations in last two years and reliable transportation 

Work can be in normal comfortable air-conditioned environments, but will also include less comfortable cold or hot construction environments and on occasion, tasks require work outdoors or in a suspension rig.
