Lab Assistant

Program Chair, Department Chair, Dean, or designee

• →Set up and tear down instructional life science laboratories and laboratory practicals, including equipment, models, specimens, slides, reagents, and other materials.
• →Prepare solutions, media, cultures, specimens, and other laboratory materials as directed by faculty.
• →Support microbiology laboratory preparation, sterilization, cleanup, and appropriate disposal of biological materials.
• →Maintain, clean, and perform routine troubleshooting of microscopes and other laboratory instruments and equipment.
• →Maintain inventories of prepared slides, models, specimens, chemicals, equipment, and other laboratory resources.
• →Maintain and monitor inventories of consumable and non-consumable laboratory supplies and communicate purchasing or replacement needs.
• →Receive, organize, and rotate laboratory supplies and maintain accurate inventory records.
• →Clean and maintain laboratories, preparation rooms, storage areas, equipment, and instructional materials.
• →Perform routine equipment maintenance and calibration and coordinate repair needs with the appropriate supervisor.
• →Maintain appropriate chemical, biological, safety, equipment, and laboratory documentation.
• →Ensure proper storage and disposal of chemical, microbiological, biological, sharps, and other laboratory waste.
• →Assist with chemistry and other science laboratory preparation and maintenance as needed.
• →Ensure compliance with applicable laboratory safety regulations, institutional policies, and procedures.
• →Work with faculty to improve laboratory organization, preparation procedures, equipment, and instructional support.
• →Perform other duties logically associated with the position as assigned.
