~1 min readJohnson Controls is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to support the development, testing, and validation of mechanical subsystems and equipment. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers to design, build, analyze, and test mechanical systems while contributing to projects that support innovation and operational excellence. This opportunity is ideal for a student who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, learning new skills, and working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Design, build, and operate mechanical systems, test fixtures, and custom production equipment.
- Partner with full-time engineers to develop system requirements and support project execution.
- Perform subsystem-level analysis, design, assembly, and validation activities.
- Document design decisions, engineering changes, and test results in a clear and timely manner.
- Develop, document, and execute mechanical testing methods and procedures.
- Create and modify CAD models, perform tolerance analyses, and develop 2D engineering drawings.
- Create and manage tickets, provide technical feedback, and assist in troubleshooting software, process, and hardware issues.
- Collaborate across engineering and manufacturing teams to support project goals and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements
~1 min read- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and complete tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Adaptable and capable of succeeding in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in detailed engineering work, including part design, material selection, and engineering drawings.
- Previous co-op, internship, or industry experience strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping tools and processes, including 3D printing, milling, lathes, laser cutting, and hand tools.
- Experience using SolidWorks and creating or modifying 2D engineering drawings.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn new technical skills independently while working within a collaborative team environment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Experience with Python, Linux, Jira, Git, or PLC programming.
- Exposure to software and hardware troubleshooting in a technical environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
