Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $44,200 - Midpoint: $55,300 (Salaried E6)
Department/Organization: 200501 - Overseas Studies (Main Account)
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; occasional nights and weekends.
Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed.
Additional Department Summary: Advises prospective study abroad students on potential programs and opportunities. Assists students with proper documentation. Informs students about policies and procedures. Assists with marketing and recruitment, programming and events, and developing and maintaining resources for students and families. Develops and maintains positive and professional relationships with other personnel within UA, (faculty and staff), as well as outside relationships with partner institutions and affiliate providers.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to exercise good judgment. Ability to problem-solve. Ability to establish and foster good working relationships with groups of people. Ability to work independently while maintaining a positive demeanor. Effective time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Higher education work experience, specifically student advising experience. Experience working at the University of Alabama. Knowledge with Terra Dotta, and other database software packages. Experience working, living or traveling overseas.
