Business Valuation Associate/Sr. Associate

This role offers the opportunity to execute complex business valuation engagements from initial proposal through final delivery. You will combine financial analysis, industry research, valuation modeling, and forensic analysis to support a diverse range of client needs. The position involves working closely with senior professionals while taking ownership of key engagement activities and client communications. You will prepare clear, insightful valuation reports for clients, attorneys, financial institutions, and other stakeholders. The role also provides exposure to transactions, tax planning, succession planning, purchase price allocation, and other valuation matters. Success requires strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Execute business valuation engagements from proposal preparation through project completion, collaborating with senior professionals as needed.
- Conduct industry research, including analysis of publicly traded comparable companies, precedent transactions, competitive dynamics, and peer financial performance.
- Analyze financial statements and supporting schedules, perform benchmarking and forensic financial analyses, and interpret valuation models.
- Develop financial models and valuation analyses for entity valuations, purchase price allocations, tax planning, succession planning, and related engagements.
- Prepare clear, concise valuation reports and supporting schedules that can be understood by clients, attorneys, financial institutions, and other non-accounting professionals.
- Serve as a key client contact throughout engagements, coordinating the collection of financial documents, responding to questions, and delivering completed reports.
- Perform quality control procedures on schedules, analyses, models, and reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Identify and discuss issues with managers or senior leadership, incorporate guidance, and independently execute agreed-upon solutions.
- Support business development initiatives, including conferences, networking events, and other relationship-building activities, as appropriate.
- Remain flexible and responsive to client needs, including attending meetings at client-specified times and locations and managing periods of extended hours when deadlines require.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or a related field required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- CVA or ABV certification required.
- At least 2 years of experience in private company valuation required.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing financial statements and related schedules.
- Working knowledge of economics, financial theory, and accounting principles.
- Experience with ASC 718 and/or ASC 805 preferred.
- Familiarity with BVR or comparable valuation databases preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong analytical, research, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to consistently meet project deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working independently and collaboratively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with professionals at all levels.
- Ability to perform effectively in a deadline-driven environment and adapt to changing client priorities.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%.
- Ability to work for extended periods at a computer and meet the physical requirements of a primarily desk-based role.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds when required.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future sponsorship for non-immigrant work visas.
