The Duty Engineer is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of the hotel's engineering systems and equipment. The role ensures all facilities are safe, functional, and maintained to the highest standards while providing prompt support to guests and operational departments.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- → Supervise the daily activities of the engineering team.
- → Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are completed on time.
- → Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guest rooms and public areas.
- → Monitor the operation of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems.
- → Conduct routine inspections of hotel facilities and equipment.
- → Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- → Ensure all engineering work complies with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- → Coordinate with other departments to minimize operational disruptions.
- → Maintain maintenance records, logbooks, and reports.
- → Monitor energy consumption and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
- → Supervise contractors and vendors during maintenance or repair work.
- → Ensure all emergency equipment is operational and participate in emergency response procedures.
- → Maintain cleanliness and organization of engineering workshops and plant rooms.
- → Train, guide, and evaluate engineering team members.
- → Perform any other duties assigned by the Chief Engineer.
Requirements
~1 min read- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of engineering experience in a hotel, resort, or hospitality environment.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and building management systems.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office and maintenance management systems).
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Customer-focused with attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs.
- Indoor and outdoor work environments.
- Exposure to mechanical and electrical equipment.
- May require lifting heavy equipment and working at heights.
- Available for emergency maintenance and on-call duties.
