The Revenue Accounting Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of revenue accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with ASC 606, and timely completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. This role also oversees accounting related to intercompany transactions and transfer pricing arrangements, ensuring compliance with global tax policies, accurate allocation of revenue and costs across legal entities, and proper financial reporting in a multi-entity international environment.
This role combines technical accounting, contract review, financial analysis, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. The Revenue Accounting Manager works closely with Billing Operations, Legal, FP&A, Operations, and external auditors to ensure revenue is recognized accurately and consistently across a complex portfolio of consulting engagements, expert network services, and other client arrangements.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Review customer contracts and evaluate revenue recognition implications under ASC 606
- Analyze contract modifications, amendments, and non-standard deal terms
- Reconcile client billings and invoices against project records, including hours worked, milestones reached, and contract terms (fixed-fee, T&M, milestone-based, etc.)
- Review work-in-progress (WIP) and unbilled receivables; investigate and resolve variances between booked revenue and project progress
- Partner with project managers and engagement leads to validate percentage-of-completion estimates and confirm milestone attainment before recognizing revenue
- Prepare revenue-related journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and supporting reconciliations for management and audit review
- Own the monthly revenue close process and related journal entries
- Prepare and review revenue reconciliations, deferred revenue schedules, and contract asset/liability analyses
- Ensure revenue balances fully tie out and withstand audit scrutiny
- Investigate and resolve revenue-related discrepancies and reporting issues
- Ensure transfer pricing entries and intercompany balances are recorded accurately and consistently across legal entities
- Coordinate intercompany accounting activities and reconciliations across international entities
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
- Perform detailed analytical reviews of revenue trends and fluctuations
- Partner with FP&A to support forecasting and reporting processes
- Prepare revenue-related reporting packages and management analyses
- Monitor key revenue metrics and explain period-over-period variances
- Support financial statement preparation and external reporting requirements
- Develop and maintain scalable revenue accounting processes and controls
- Strengthen internal controls surrounding contract review, revenue recognition, and reporting
- Partner with Finance Systems teams to improve revenue workflows and automation
- Support ERP enhancements and revenue system implementations
- Leverage technology and AI tools (e.g., Anthropic Claude) to improve efficiency and scalability
- Serve as a key point of contact for revenue-related audit requests
- Coordinate with external auditors and advisors on technical accounting matters
- Partner with Tax, Legal, FP&A, Operations, and Billing Operations teams on revenue-related initiatives
- Support international expansion and evolving revenue recognition requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA certification
- 5–8 years of accounting experience, including public accounting and/or revenue accounting experience
- Strong expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition guidance
- Experience reviewing and interpreting customer contracts
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP
- Experience working with ERP systems; NetSuite preferred
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Nice to Have
