Job Description

The grapple truck operator is responsible for driving and operating company vehicles to and from customer locations and to maintain a safe, clean, and professional operation at all times. The grapple truck operator will be responsible for loading and unloading railroad materials. The grapple truck operator will also be responsible for maintaining the vehicle, equipment, and property of the vehicle at all times. The grapple truck operator will also be responsible for working and assisting team members. This is a traveling position.


Responsibilities

  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with Company policy and D.O.T. regulations.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and follow all traffic laws.
  • Actively participates in daily safety briefings.
  • Follows all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate Grapple and magnet to move, stage, load/unload railroad materials.
  • Ensure that specifications, knowledge of weights and procedures for material handling are in place prior to commencing work.
  • Works with hydraulic tools, welding, cutting with torches, electrical tools and common hand tools in accomplishment of work assignments.
  • Maintains daily job reporting of production.
  • Continuously monitors equipment/vehicles to minimize downtime and to ensure operational readiness.
  • Maintains vehicles/equipment to ensure that they are cleaned of debris/trash, tools and equipment are organized and that the vehicle/equipment presents the level of quality our customers expect.
  • Work well and communicate effectively with customers and co-workers.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively and safely.


Requirements

  • A valid Class A CDL or Class B CDL.
  • Experience driving a manual transmission commercial vehicle.
  • At least one year of experience operating a grapple truck with hi-rail gear
  • Previous relevant railroad experience.
  • Clean driving record (no serious traffic violations or DUIs).
  • Clear a background check and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must pass training courses prior to beginning employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
