What We Offer
~1 min readYou will work at the intersection of individuals, employers and tax authorities, focusing on inbound expatriates to Romania and Romanian employees on international assignments. You will ensure that tax, social security and related compliance obligations are identified, managed and fulfilled in a timely and accurate way.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Global mobility tax compliance: Prepare and review Romanian personal income tax returns and related filings for inbound and outbound assignees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Romanian tax law and double tax treaties.
- →Assignment structuring & advisory support: Support managers in designing tax-efficient assignment structures (short-term, long-term, permanent transfers), analyzing tax implications and providing recommendations aligned with client policies and commercial needs.
- →Social security and payroll coordination: Analyze social security positions for cross-border assignments, support the issuance and tracking of A1/certificates of coverage, and coordinate with payroll teams to ensure correct tax and social security withholding.
- →Assignee and client relationship management: Act as a day-to-day contact for HR departments and assignees, answer queries on personal tax and social security, explain technical matters in clear language and provide updates on filing and compliance status.
- →Technical research & monitoring of legislation: Monitor changes in Romanian and relevant foreign tax and social security legislation, perform technical research, and contribute to internal alerts, summaries and guidance for the team and clients.
- →Documentation and file management: Maintain well-organized client files and assignment documentation, ensuring that working papers, calculations and correspondence meet internal quality standards and are ready for review.
- →Support and coaching for junior team members: Review calculations and draft deliverables prepared by junior colleagues, provide constructive feedback and share practical knowledge on GMS processes and tools.
- →Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with other tax teams (e.g. corporate tax, payroll), immigration specialists and global KPMG offices to deliver integrated solutions for global mobility programs.
You are a GMS tax professional who enjoys solving complex personal tax questions, working with people from different countries and helping organizations manage their international workforce confidently and compliantly.

Typically, you will bring:
- Professional experience:
- Around 1–3 years of experience in Personal Tax, preferably in a global mobility framework (inbound/outbound expatriates, international assignments).
- Experience in consultancy is a strong plus (Big Four or similar environment).
- Previous work experience and/or solid knowledge of payroll legislation and related IT applications is a plus.
- Functional expertise:
- Good understanding of Romanian personal income tax rules relevant for employees and expatriates.
- Familiarity with double tax treaties and social security coordination rules in a cross-border context.
- Experience with preparation and review of personal income tax returns and mobility-related compliance workflows.
- Strong knowledge of standard office IT applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for calculations, documentation and presentations.
- Familiarity with payroll systems or global mobility tools is an advantage.
- Ability to work with checklists, workflows and quality standards in a professional services environment.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); Romanian fluency is expected for local interactions.
- Able to communicate professionally with assignees and HR teams, including in sensitive situations.
- Additional foreign languages are a plus in a global mobility context.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Previous experience in a GMS / expatriate tax team within a Big Four or similar firm.
- Local tax advisor or similar professional qualification (or in progress).
- Exposure to immigration processes or coordination with immigration providers.
- Experience working with multinational clients and multi-country assignment programs.
