About the role
As Communications & Visibility Lead, you are accountable for the brand positioning, visibility, reputation, and communication performance of We Can Work across global, regional, and national levels. This is where programme evidence, innovation, learning, and impact are translated into compelling narratives that strengthen influence, deepen stakeholder engagement, raise donor visibility, and advance Light for the World's strategic goals.
You'll set the programme's communication strategy, shape its narrative architecture, lead its campaigns, and act as steward of its brand, while ensuring that We Can Work's communication priorities are aligned with, and contribute to, Light for the World's overall positioning. Working in close partnership with Technical Advisory Services, the Programme Management Unit, and country teams, you'll make sure We Can Work shows up consistently and powerfully across organisational, donor, partner, and public-facing platforms.

  • Lead the development and implementation of We Can Work's communication strategy, fully aligned with Light for the World's communication priorities, brand positioning, and global objectives
  • Act as the strategic communications focal point for the programme within the Global Communications & Brand Team, and as the primary contact across stakeholders including the Programme Management Unit, International Communications, Country Office focal points, the Mastercard Foundation, and implementing partners
  • Co-create annual communication plans and major initiatives, and advise programme leadership on positioning, reputational considerations, and audience engagement
  • Own the narrative framework, key messaging, and positioning of We Can Work
  • Lead integrated communication and campaign strategies that translate programme evidence and impact into compelling, audience-centred narratives
  • Drive communication planning for major external engagement opportunities, strategic events, partnerships, donor visibility initiatives, and key stakeholder moments
  • Oversee dissemination across organisational, partner, media and other channels, and monitor performance and audience engagement to inform continuous improvement
  • Provide communication leadership across multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with Global Communications & Brand, Technical Advisory Services, programme teams, and country offices
  • Establish communication governance and promote a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and communication excellence across the We Can Work ecosystem

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Substantial experience in strategic communications, brand, or campaign leadership, ideally within international, mission-driven, or matrix organisations
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver communication strategies end-to-end — from narrative and messaging through campaigns and dissemination to measurable visibility outcomes
  • Strong storytelling instincts, with a talent for turning complex evidence and impact into compelling, audience-centred narratives
  • Experience managing brand consistency and communication quality across multiple channels, audiences, and country contexts
  • Experience with donor-funded programmes and working with foundations such as the Mastercard Foundation
  • Understanding of the technical requirements of a multi-country, multi-year implemented programme and stakeholder needs when it comes to technical expertise, learning and documentation, and knowledge management
  • Confident stakeholder management and influencing skills across multicultural, multi-country environments, including senior leadership, donors, and partners
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building the approach as you go, rather than relying on a fixed playbook
  • A genuine commitment to accessibility and inclusive communication practice
  • Fluency in English (additional languages relevant to programme countries are an asset)
