Loose Tube Jacketing Associate

The LT Jacketing operation at Lightera consist of the setup and operation of an extruder(s) and support equipment for the purpose of water proofing, strengthen, and placing an inner or outer sheave (jacket) around a fiber optic cable core. 

The LT Jacketing Associate typically works as a two-person team, responsible for setting up and operating the jacketing line equipment to produce cable products, which meet or exceed customer and internal specifications.

The LT Jacketing Associate performs quality checks, completes paperwork, cleans and organizes their work area and monitors the product being produced.

The following describe the work categories associated with the essential duties and responsibilities of this job:

1. a) Machine Operation:  Monitors the Jacketing Line continuously to keep the line operating efficiently and effectively; checks and maintains the operating levels of the compound hopper, water proofing system, steel/aluminum tape, Kevlar/fiberglass and monitors the system controls to make adjustments to critical run factors such as operating speed, extruder output, heat, print quality, and take-up layer wind.

1. c) Documentation: Records process data and quality checks on the Jacketing Process Sheet. Completes daily time report and any special requirements as specified. Reviews procedure, PCN, and OI to keep abreast of machine and product changers. Completes TPM (daily, weekly, quarterly) as assigned task are completed.

1. b) Machine Setup: Login to computer an obtain product setup information. Review machine setup and makes changes to equipment, materials, and operating parameters as required. Changes, cleans and loads the line equipment including the extruder, fiberglass/fiberglass servers, material payoffs and take-ups.  Sets operating speed, ratio, tension as determined by product design. Reviews factory order and sets up print legend and print length (ft./mt.) as required.

1. d) General Maintenance: Performs normal cleaning and preventative maintenance to keep all systems in working order as outline in the TPM.  Notifies maintenance, team leader or manager of problems.
