We are seeking an experienced Archaeologist and Principal Investigator to lead and deliver archaeological field investigations and Section 106 compliance efforts as part of our Environmental Services team. In this role, you will serve as a PI and project leader on complex cultural resources projects (including survey and field investigations), guide technical delivery and documentation, mentor and develop staff, and partner with clients and agencies throughout project delivery. - Graduate degree (M.A. or higher) in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field with a specialization in archaeology at the graduate level
- Graduate-level training in archaeological theory, methods, and regional cultural history
- Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology (36 CFR Part 61) and must be eligible to serve as PI on INDOT or federally funded projects
- Minimum 3 years of professional archaeological experience, including:
- At least 2 years in a professional-level supervisory experience directing archaeological survey and excavation
- At least 1 year of laboratory analysis experience, including artifact cataloging and interpretation
- Minimum 4 months of supervised field and analytic experience in North American archaeology
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience and research in Midwestern precontact archaeology or Midwestern historical archaeology and archival research
- Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion, such as a thesis, dissertation, or equivalent technical report
- Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and complete archaeological investigations (including technical reporting)
- Experience preparing Section 106 compliance documentation and technical reports
- Ability to meet or be listed on the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology Qualified Professionals Roster as a Principal Investigator
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams
- Publication record or technical reporting portfolio
- Current listing on the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology Qualified Professionals Roster as a Principal Investigator for both precontact and historical sites
- Prior approval as a PI by a State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), preferably Indiana
