The Safeguarding Adults and Independent Living Team is looking to appoint 1 highly motivated Practice Manager to provide management support and direction to a small team of social workers with primary responsibility for adult social care operational safeguarding responsibilities at Newham’s front door safeguarding triaging service.

This is a perfect opportunity for you to take your career to the next level, an opportunity for you to learn new skills and to deliver on a strength and person-centred approach to safeguarding practice. You will be joining an exceptionally supportive and collaborative team who operate within an inclusive and welcoming environment.

You will need to be a qualified social worker.

Your responsibilities will include managing a small team of social workers in partnership with another Practice Manager, ensuring that high quality and timely triaging and screening of safeguarding concerns is a priority. You will act as a Safeguarding Adults Manager (SAM) for a small number of safeguarding enquiries and will be expected to provide high quality strength-based supervision to some of your team members. You will also be expected to undertake and complete high quality audits and to contribute to and maintain up to date and accurate data sets.

Additionally, you will work in closely in partnership with adult social care operations teams and with other local safeguarding stakeholder partners and agencies, including but not exclusively: East London Foundation Trust, Barts Health, Police, London Fire Brigade and also the London Ambulance Service and Newham’s Children and Younger Person Services.

Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, forward thinking and a commitment to enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities are essential for success in this role, including having a good understanding of those sections of the community that can often be overlooked or misunderstood, including adults with a neurodevelopmental diagnosis such as autism, rough sleepers and people with substance use issues and or complex mental health diagnosis. A good understanding of the issues faced by those experiencing domestic abuse and those who have no recourse to public funds is also required as is an understanding of local safeguarding multi-agency risk forums such as MAPPA and MARAC.

We offer an exceptionally supportive and collaborative work environment, peer support, individual and group supervision, solid CPD opportunities and an opportunity to further develop knowledge and skills in a specialist area that is also underpinned by an excellent work force development and training offer.
