About the Role

We’re seeking a Structural Steel Bridge Inspector to support large, complex heavy civil infrastructure programs, including highways, roads, bridges, and transit (bus and rail) projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. This role covers structural steel on bridges and transportation structures in the field, including erection, field welding, bolting, coatings, and specialty systems such as bearings, expansion joints, and cable and post-tensioning hardware. You’ll verify delivered and erected steel against approved shop drawings, welding procedures, and contract specifications, and document what is needed to accept, pay for, or reject the work.

This is a full time, long term, on-site position located in the greater Savannah, GA region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.
  • 7+ years of progressive transportation technician experience with a state highway agency as an employee or consultant for a State Highway Agency, with construction experience on at least five (5) complex bridges.
  • At least one representative project shall show experience with stay cable bridge construction or cable replacement (Maintenance).
  • Inspection experience on structural steel bridge erection, including field-welded and high-strength bolted connections.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret shop drawings, erection plans, welding procedure specifications, mill test reports, Bridge Foundation Investigation reports, Contractor’s layouts, and all other documents associated with projects.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code, AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code, or comparable AASHTO, AISC, and state DOT structural steel requirements.
  • Experience documenting inspection findings, test results, and nonconforming work in daily reports and inspection logs.
  • Proficiency with digital inspection and field reporting platforms, such as Procore, Bluebeam Revu, or comparable platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Master’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or construction management.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification.
  • Experience serving as the owner’s lead steel inspector on a bridge package exceeding $100M in construction value.
  • Experience inspecting fracture-critical steel members and verifying that the approved fracture control plan is being followed.
  • Experience with industry standard construction management and document control software (e.g., Bentley ProjectWise, Kahua, e-Builder, etc.).

Please Note: For titles containing GDOT certifications or passing scores on Engineering Skills Development Tests, certifications and passing scores must be obtained within six (6) months of beginning work on the GDOT project. Certifications from other agencies or states may possibly be substituted.

Expected Salary: $120k-$160k/year ($58-$77/hour).
