The Engineering Program at Marymount University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track instructor in Mechanical Engineering commencing in the Spring 2027 semester. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or related fields. Applicants should have a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field at minimum; PhD is preferred. Applications should include:

Marymount’s Engineering program (comprised of degrees in biomedical and mechanical engineering) is part of Marymount University’s School of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering and is housed in the College of Sciences and Humanities. Faculty are expected to teach high-quality student-centric undergraduate courses in face-to-face and potentially online settings. The School of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering is located on Marymount University’s main Campus in Arlington, VA in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

✓Teach up to four courses per semester.
✓Able to teach a range of undergraduate mechanical engineering courses in physics, solid mechanics, thermodynamics, senior design, manufacturing, and controls, prior experience in teaching laboratory courses and machine learning is a plus.
✓Have some experience in engineering software, such as Autodesk, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys, LabView, MATLAB, and 3D printing.
✓Comfortable in teaching in a hybrid or on-line environment
✓Provide academic support and guidance to students through office hours, feedback on assignments, and mentoring.
✓Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements related to teaching responsibilities.
✓Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Have some experience with instrumentation and controls, including laboratory measurement and data acquisition systems.
  • Have prior experience managing engineering laboratories, including materials testing, equipment operation and maintenance, laboratory scheduling, and coordination of student laboratory activities.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and risk assessments to ensure safe and effective laboratory operations.
  • Coordinate laboratory resources, equipment usage, maintenance, and scheduling to support teaching and research activities.
  • Provide training and guidance to students on laboratory equipment, safety procedures, experimental methods, and proper handling of materials and instrumentation.

    • Master’s in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited institution;
    • PhD in Mechanical engineering is preferred.
