BUILDING SERVICES WORKER

Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

A Building Services Worker is the full performance level of work in providing maintenance,\r\nhousekeeping and general services for State buildings. Employees in this classification do not\r\nsupervise other positions.\r\nEmployees in this classification receive general supervision from a Building Services\r\nSupervisor or other housekeeping supervisory position. Employees may be subject to call-in\r\non a 24-hour basis. Employees in this classification may be assigned to day, evening, night or\r\nrotating shifts which may include weekends and holidays based on staffing needs. Employees\r\nmay be exposed to noisy, dirty and uncomfortable conditions, such as extreme heat and cold\r\ntemperatures. The work may require the use of protective equipment such as gloves, masks,\r\nrespirators, goggles, back braces and safety shoes when performing maintenance duties.\r\nEmployees may be required to work in confined spaces and at various heights and move\r\nheavy objects.\r\nThe Building Services Worker is differentiated from the Building Services Supervisor in that\r\nthe Building Services Worker performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under\r\ngeneral supervision while the Building Services Worker Supervisor has supervisory\r\nresponsibility for Building Services Workers.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for a Building Services Worker at the New Germany State Park Complex in Grantsville, Maryland (Garrett County). This full performance level position will be responsible for providing maintenance, housekeeping and general services for full-service cabins, bath houses, a lake house, day use restrooms, park offices and maintenance shop restrooms. Duties include cleaning state buildings and restrooms, collecting trash and recyclable items, replacing supplies and minor repairs to furniture.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Candidates should have experience multi-tasking and working independently\r\n Candidates should have the ability to clean and maintain indoor and outdoor areas\r\n Candidates should be able to read warning labels and directions for safe use of supplies, materials andequipment\r\n Candidates should have experience following verbal and written instructions.\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. \r\n
