Main Purpose of Job

\r\nThe Maryland State Retirement Agency is seeking\r\nan exceptional individual to serve as Managing Director of Real Assets within\r\nits Investment Division.� This position\r\nis a management service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing\r\nAuthority.� The Managing Director leads a\r\nteam of investment professionals responsible for meeting risk and return\r\nobjectives, and establishes investment strategy and program goals, particularly\r\nas they relate to real estate, infrastructure and natural resources investments.� Further, the Managing Director develops\r\nstandards and controls to meet objectives;\r\nRecommends and assists with determining appropriate metrics and\r\nguidelines for evaluating investment performance;� Provides direct leadership, oversight and\r\nmanagement of professional investment staff, external investment managers and\r\nconsultants; Ensures that the integrity of the established investment framework\r\nis maintained and that policies and procedures are followed, including the\r\nfiduciary duty to assess risks associated with climate change and labor\r\npractices;� Provides guidance and\r\nrecommendations for allocation of assets within the areas of real estate,\r\ninfrastructure and natural resources;\r\nServes as an independent evaluator to ensure that investment concerns\r\nare appropriately monitored, evaluated, resolved and communicated;� Collaborates with the CIO, Deputy CIO and\r\nother Managing Directors to review and coordinate investment strategies across\r\nproducts;� In collaboration with the risk\r\nmanagement team, identify and map risks to a common set of risk factors in the\r\ncontext of the total portfolio;� Gathers\r\ndata, analyzes results and communicates performance results;� Promotes a collaborative and holistic Total\r\nPortfolio Approach across asset class teams to maximize investment outcomes in\r\nthe best interests of plan.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position\r\nis a management service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing\r\nAuthority.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Position responsibilities include:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n*�Works\r\ndirectly with the Board of Trustees, Investment Committee, Executive Director,\r\nCIO, DCIO, external consultants, external managers and others in the\r\ndevelopment, implementation and maintenance of broad investment policies\r\nestablished by the Board of Trustees.�\r\n\r\n\r\n*�Establishes\r\noverall investment management program goals, standards, and controls to meet\r\nrisk and return objectives.���\r\n* Oversees\r\ninvestment professionals and financial resources of the investment management\r\nprogram.��\r\n* Ensures the integrity of the\r\nestablished investment framework through implementation of policies and\r\nprocedures, awareness of rules, laws, and regulations by professional\r\ninvestment staff, external investment managers, and consultants.�\r\n*�Monitors\r\nand manages relationships with external investment managers for an asset class.���\r\n* Oversees due diligence process, reviewing portfolio holdings and\r\nstrategies, analyzing performance and compliance with investment guidelines.���\r\n* Represents the Agency before senior managers,\r\nexternal investment managers, consultants and others concerning investment\r\nperformance relative to objectives.��\r\n*�Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and\r\nprocedures to mitigate risk.�\r\n*�Performs\r\nother duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected in investment\r\nstrategy, risk mitigation and division management.�\r\n* Other duties as assigned.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\nEducation: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year\r\ncollege in Math, Science, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business\r\nAdministration, Public Administration, or similar fields of study.\r\n�\r\nExperience: Eight years of professional investment experience.� \r\n�\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).
