POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland’s Field Enforcement Bureau is seeking to fill the position of Compliance�Inspector I. The main purpose of this position is to conduct field inspections of registered motor fuel sellers, to�include bulk plants, retail service stations, and marinas to ensure compliance with motor fuel quality�standards and motor fuel tax laws and regulations. Additional duties include participation with enforcement�activities related to dyed fuel, petroleum transporters, motor carriers, the International Fuel Tax Agreement�(IFTA) and transient vendors to ensure compliance with all tax laws and regulations.\r\n\r\n\r\nPlease Note:�Position requires long hours, and work on evenings, weekends and�holidays as necessary. Subject to recall 24 hours a day.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. \r\nExperience: One year of experience inspecting the sale and distribution of petroleum products, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to assess compliance with tax and other laws and regulations for a regulatory government agency, or one year documented investigative experience with a bona fide law enforcement agency.\r\nNotes:��\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Candidates may substitute one year of experience in general inspection or investigation work or administering the transportation, distribution or sale of petroleum products, alcoholic beverages or cigarettes�for each six months of the required experience.\r\n Candidates may substitute additional experience inspecting the sale and distribution of petroleum products, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to assess compliance with tax and other laws and regulations for a regulatory government agency�on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r\n Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in general inspection, investigation, enforcement, and compliance classification or general inspection, investigation, enforcement, and compliance specialty codes in the logistics field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at�http://www.naces.org/members.html.\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Possess a knowledge of on-site motor fuel enforcement and compliance inspections of retailers, bulk�storage sites, major terminals, petroleum transporters, motor carriers, the International Fuel Tax�Agreement (IFTA), and dyed fuel enforcement, in addition to the collection of motor fuel samples for quality�control testing to ensure compliance with federal and state specifications and regulations.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n\r\n
