Main Purpose of Job
The substitute secretary supports the school office by providing clerical and administrative assistance in the absence of the regular secretary. This position ensures continuity of school operations by greeting and assisting visitors, managing communications, and performing essential office tasks assigned by the administrator. Candidates must comply with and support MSD's regulations and policies. Substitute secretaries need to be available on an on-call basis.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
The\r\nsubstitute secretary serves as the first point of contact for students, staff,\r\nfamilies, and visitors by greeting guests, answering calls, and directing\r\ninquiries to the appropriate people. This position is responsible for\r\nsupporting the office’s daily operations. Duties include maintaining\r\nsign-in/sign-out logs and following school procedures for visitor management\r\nand student dismissals or late arrivals; assisting with attendance reporting and\r\ndaily announcements; supporting emergency drills and responses; and providing\r\nclerical support with basic office tasks. This position requires maintaining\r\nstrict confidentiality of student and school personnel information and may be\r\nasked to assume other duties as assigned by the administrator or the Campus\r\nChief Educational Programs Officer.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.\r\nFluency in English and American Sign Language required.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Two years\r\nperforming office, secretarial type, or clerical work involving typing duties.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge\r\nof Deaf Community preferred.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background\r\ninvestigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1,\r\nSections 5-560-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to provide three letters of\r\nrecommendation with their application.\r\n

BENEFITS
\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n
