Main Purpose of Job

Key Responsibilities:\r\n\r\n\r\n1. Create a Supportive Learning Environment�\r\nEstablish a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom atmosphere where students feel respected, valued, and motivated to engage in learning.�\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Develop and Deliver Engaging Instruction�\r\nDesign and implement dynamic lesson plans tailored to the diverse needs, learning styles, and abilities of students, fostering both academic growth and personal development.�\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Employ Effective Teaching Strategies�\r\nUtilize a variety of instructional methodologies, strategies, and technologies to enhance student engagement and create meaningful learning experiences.�\r\n\r\n\r\n4. Monitor and Support Student Progress�\r\nConduct regular assessments, both formative and summative, to evaluate student progress, provide constructive feedback, and offer individualized support to ensure academic success.�\r\n\r\n\r\n5. Collaborate with a Multidisciplinary Team�\r\nWork closely with social workers, counselors, administrators, and other professionals to create comprehensive plans that address individual student challenges and promote overall success.�\r\n\r\n\r\n6. Promote Restorative Practices�\r\nImplement restorative approaches and conflict resolution techniques to cultivate positive relationships among students and foster accountability, responsibility, and personal growth.�\r\n\r\n\r\n7. Serve as a Mentor and Role Model�\r\nDemonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding while encouraging positive behavior, responsible decision-making, and resilience.�\r\n\r\n\r\n8. Engage with Families and Guardians�\r\nMaintain open and consistent communication with students’ families or guardians, providing updates on academic performance, behavior, and any concerns, while fostering a partnership for student success.�\r\n\r\n\r\n9. Stay Informed on Educational Best Practices�\r\nRemain current with the latest research, strategies, and interventions in youth education, continuously refining teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of students.\r\n\r\n\r\n10. Commit to Professional Growth�\r\nParticipate in professional development opportunities, training sessions, and workshops to enhance teaching effectiveness and uphold a high standard of professional excellence.\r\nThis comprehensive approach ensures a positive, transformative impact on the educational and personal development of the youth we serve.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education. \r\nExperience: None. \r\n

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

\r\nMust\r\npossess a MSDE Secondary Education Educator License.\r\n\r\n\r\n** Please Note: Candidates who do not immediately meet this requirement\r\nmay become eligible by\r\napplying for a Maryland Teaching license at�Apply for MSDE Certification.\r\n\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n1. Active licensure in one or more of the following content areas:\r\nEnglish, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, ESOL, Career and Technical\r\nEducation (CTE), or School Counseling.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. A minimum of one year of teaching experience, which may include\r\ninternship experience.�\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Current active certification issued by the Maryland State\r\nDepartment of Education.\r\n\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

\r\nTeachers in State operated school programs are\r\nrequired to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of\r\nMaryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of\r\nMaryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for\r\nappointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of\r\nCredentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for\r\napplication may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W.\r\nBaltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2595.\r\n\r\n\r\nAdditional educational credits beyond the\r\nAdvanced Professional Certificate must meet the following criteria established\r\nby the Institutional Educators Pay Plan Committee in order to qualify for application\r\ntoward the APC plus 30 (60) levels:�\r\n\r\n\r\nCredits must be beyond the education level held\r\nat the time the educational requirements for the Advanced Professional\r\nCertificate were met and must either relate to the current job responsibilities\r\nor be part of an employer approved program of study.�\r\n\r\n\r\nCredits mean semester hours from a regionally\r\naccredited college or university or Maryland State Department of Education\r\napproved workshops.�\r\n\r\n\r\nNo more than one half of any additional credits\r\napplied to these criteria may be earned through Maryland Department of\r\nEducation approved workshops.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\nEmployees\r\nin this classification are subject to�Substance Abuse Testing�as\r\noutlined in�Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) 17.04.09,\r\nwhich addresses the testing for illegal drug use.\r\n\r\n\r\nAs part of the hiring process, applicants must consent to�State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS)\r\ninvestigations/background checks, which are standard procedures for\r\nall employees working in State Juvenile Services facilities.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nProof of eligibility to work in the United States, as required\r\nby the�Immigration Reform and Control Act, must be provided\r\nupon hire.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAdditionally, employment is contingent upon obtaining at least\r\na�Conditional Maryland Teaching Certificate. If it is\r\ndetermined after hiring that the incumbent does not qualify for this\r\ncertification or fails to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland Teaching\r\nCertificate, employment will be terminated.\r\n\r\n\r\n
