Position Title: Summer Camp Counsellor (Temporary, Seasonal)
Reports To: Administrative Coordinator - Student Camps 

Term: July 6–31, 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.



Position Summary

Meadowridge School is seeking two enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic Summer Camp Counsellors to support students participating in our Summer Camps. Camp Counsellors play a key role in creating a safe, engaging, and positive camp experience by assisting with activities, supervising campers, supporting instructors, and fostering an inclusive environment where all students can thrive. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, are team-oriented, and are passionate about creating memorable experiences for young learners.

 

Key Responsibilities

Student Supervision and Support

  • Supervise campers throughout the day, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Build positive relationships with campers and promote a welcoming, inclusive camp environment.
  • Support campers with transitions between activities, snack breaks, and outdoor play.
  • Assist campers in following camp expectations, routines, and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor student behaviour and address minor issues in a positive and respectful manner.

Program Support

  • Assist camp instructors and coordinators in the preparation and delivery of camp activities.
  • Help set up, organize, and clean up materials and activity spaces.
  • Participate actively in camp activities, games, and special events.
  • Support students of varying ages, abilities, and interests to ensure meaningful participation.
  • Encourage camper engagement, teamwork, and positive social interactions.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Follow all Meadowridge School policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain awareness of camper whereabouts and ensure appropriate supervision at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, injuries, or emergencies and report concerns to supervisor.
  • Assist with attendance tracking and camper sign-in/sign-out procedures.

Other Support

  • Assist with the daily organization of camp equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with camp staff regarding student needs and concerns.
  • Support the smooth operation of camp programs as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience working with children or youth through camps, sports, recreation programs, tutoring, volunteering, or similar settings.
  • Experience in camp, recreational, educational, or childcare settings.
  • Interest in education, recreation, child and youth care, teaching, or related fields.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

  • Ability to engage and motivate children in a variety of activities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate boundaries with students.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing needs throughout the camp day.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated responsibility, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high level of energy throughout the camp day.

Working Conditions

  • Onsite at Meadowridge School.
  • Combination of indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and active participation in camp programming.
  • May occasionally assist with lifting and moving camp supplies and equipment.
