Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this classification\r\nexists is to conduct professional audits of business firms to ensure compliance\r\nwith applicable revenue laws, ordinances, and regulations. License &\r\nRevenue Auditors examine accounting records, determine tax liabilities, and\r\nenforce city tax provisions, including sales tax, business tax, and business\r\nlicense requirements. Work responsibilities include planning and conducting\r\naudits of businesses operating within the City of Montgomery, communicating audit\r\nfindings and recommendations to supervisors and taxpayers or representatives,\r\ninitiating enforcement actions against delinquent taxpayers, processing amended\r\nreturns for audit assessments, and performing various administrative duties. This\r\nposition requires a strong understanding of tax laws, independent judgment, and\r\nthe ability to interpret and apply complex regulations across various\r\nindustries. License & Revenue Auditors must demonstrate professionalism and\r\ntact when interacting with the public, legal representatives, accountants, and\r\ninternal staff. While work methods follow established laws and division\r\nguidelines, License & Revenue Auditors must exercise significant discretion\r\nand initiative in conducting audits of varying complexity. This position may\r\nalso participate in coordinated or joint audits with professionals from other\r\ntaxing jurisdictions. The License & Revenue Auditor reports to the\r\nSenior License & Revenue Auditor.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
\r\nBachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or public administration and\r\neither one (1) year of experience auditing business financial records or two (2)\r\nyears of professional accounting experience.� �\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:\r\nQualifying education, training, and experience that provide the\r\nrequisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be\r\nconsidered.\r\n\r\n\r\n
Special Requirements
After employment, License & Revenue\r\nAuditors are required to receive the training necessary to earn the\r\nprofessional qualification of Certified Revenue Examiner (CRE) and must\r\nmaintain this certification through annual training. Must have and maintain a\r\nvalid driver’s license and an insurable driving record to drive City vehicles. \r\nThis position requires travel within the City of\r\nMontgomery and occasional travel outside of the city and state of Alabama. Field\r\naudits may be conducted in a wide variety of work environments, including an office\r\nsetting, outdoors, or work sites.\r\n
Kind of Examination
