Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification\r\nexists is to complete welding projects throughout the City of Montgomery. The work\r\nresponsibilities include completing welding projects, including building,\r\ninstalling, and repairing fences, overseeing and coordinating the daily\r\nactivities of assigned crew members, and performing administrative duties. Work\r\nis performed with considerable independent judgement. Welders in the Street\r\nMaintenance Department are supervised by the Maintenance Supervisor, Street\r\nMaintenance Superintendent, or Maintenance Department Director. Welders in the\r\nParks and Recreation Department are supervised by the District Parks\r\nMaintenance Supervisor. Welders in the Leisure Services Department are\r\nsupervised by the Parks and Recreation Supervisor.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of\r\nexperience performing welding tasks. Must possess a Welder’s certification.� �\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:� Qualifying\r\neducation, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills\r\nand abilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n

Special Requirements

\r\nMust obtain a Welder’s certification. Must\r\nbe able to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and possess an\r\ninsurable driving record to operate city vehicles.\r\nAvailability\r\nto be on call 24 hours with the flexibility to work nights, weekends, and\r\nholidays as needed for special emergencies\r\nand/or special events.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWORKING\r\nCONDITIONS:�Work primarily takes place in an outdoor setting, with\r\nfrequent exposure to loud noise, dirt, dust, fumes, and adverse weather\r\nconditions, such as rain, extreme heat, and cold.\r\n\r\n\r\n

Kind of Examination
