The Clinical Site Supervisor is an adjunct faculty member supporting students in Midwestern University’s Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) program. The University seeks nationally certified AGPCNPs with current clinical experience and a commitment to preparing competent, practice-ready nurse practitioners.

This role provides faculty oversight of assigned clinical experiences through site visits, student assessment, preceptor collaboration, and ongoing monitoring of clinical progress. The Clinical Site Supervisor works with program leadership, clinical faculty, and the Director of Clinical Education to ensure that clinical experiences support course objectives, program outcomes, and safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • →Conduct scheduled clinical site visits, in person and/or virtually as approved by the program, to assess student performance, learning opportunities, and the clinical learning environment.
  • →Evaluate students’ application of advanced assessment, diagnostic reasoning, treatment planning, safe prescribing, health promotion, disease prevention, and care coordination within the assigned population focus.
  • →Assess progression toward clinical competencies appropriate to the student’s level, including care of adolescents, adults, and older adults for AGPCNP students.
  • →Collaborate with preceptors to review student strengths, identify learning needs, clarify clinical expectations, and support consistent evaluation.
  • →Provide timely, constructive feedback that strengthens clinical reasoning, professional behavior, communication, and readiness for entry into NP practice.
  • →Review assigned clinical documentation, including encounter logs, clinical hours, student self-evaluations, and preceptor evaluations, for completeness and alignment with course requirements.
  • →Complete and submit site visit reports, clinical evaluations, and other required documentation within established deadlines.
  • →Identify and promptly communicate concerns involving student performance, patient safety, professionalism, preceptor suitability, or clinical site learning opportunities to designated program personnel.
  • →Participate in the development, implementation, and follow-up of student remediation plans in collaboration with the responsible course faculty and program leadership.
  • →Monitor the suitability of clinical experiences for the assigned specialty and report gaps in patient populations, encounter types, or opportunities to meet learning objectives.
  • →Contribute to clinical course evaluation and quality improvement through feedback on student outcomes, preceptor experiences, and clinical site effectiveness.
  • →Follow institutional policies and applicable professional, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including expectations related to confidentiality, clinical supervision, and student evaluation.
  • →Maintain current clinical knowledge, national certification, and required professional licensure.

Requirements

  • Earned graduate degree in nursing (MSN or higher) with preparation as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current national certification as an AGPCNP appropriate to the assigned clinical supervision responsibilities.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license and APRN licensure or authorization to practice, with ability to obtain and maintain licensure in jurisdictions required for the assignment.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical practice experience as a nurse practitioner in primary care or a setting relevant to the assigned population focus.
  • Current or recent clinical practice experience demonstrating expertise in evidence-based primary care.
  • Ability to assess graduate NP student performance, provide actionable feedback, and document clinical evaluations accurately and promptly.
  • Ability to meet institutional faculty appointment requirements and applicable requirements for the assigned clinical supervision role.
  • Earned doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, such as a DNP, PhD, or EdD.
  • Prior experience as an NP preceptor, clinical faculty member, or clinical site supervisor.
  • Experience teaching or evaluating students in graduate NP programs.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations, rural communities, or medically underserved populations.
  • Familiarity with electronic clinical tracking systems, learning management systems, and virtual evaluation platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of AGPCNP scope of practice, primary care standards, and population-specific competencies.
  • Ability to evaluate clinical reasoning, patient management, safe prescribing, and professional accountability.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with students, preceptors, clinical partners, and program personnel.
  • Ability to recognize performance concerns and support appropriate remediation and escalation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage site visits, evaluation deadlines, and clinical documentation.
  • Commitment to fair and consistent evaluation, student development, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement.

This is a part-time adjunct position. Assignments vary by academic term, student enrollment, clinical site locations, and program needs. Responsibilities may include travel to assigned clinical sites, approved virtual site visits, clinical documentation review, and scheduled meetings with students, preceptors, and program personnel. Availability during clinical site operating hours is required.
