Senior Electrical Engineer
Quick Summary
Design and bring up mixed-signal PCBAs and SoM carrier boards, including display and UI subsystems — from schematic capture through layout, test, and validation Integrate and validate camera modules,
Mill is a waste prevention technology company reimagining what it means to eliminate waste, starting with food. We build smart systems and infrastructure for homes, businesses, and municipalities that transform food scraps from landfill-bound waste into valuable resources, including chicken feed. Tens of thousands of Mill’s residential food recyclers are already helping households divert millions of pounds of food scraps every year, paving the way for our upcoming launch of Mill Commercial—the industry’s first end-to-end solution for managing, understanding, and preventing food waste in commercial environments (e.g. grocery, restaurants, food services). At Mill, we are passionate about building easy-to-use, beautifully designed technologies that keep food in the food system and out of landfills.
About the Role
~1 min readAs a Senior Electrical Engineer at Mill, you will own the compute, sensing, and connectivity layer of the hardware — the digital systems that tie the product together. You'll work hands-on with firmware, mechanical, and systems engineers, taking embedded Linux platforms, mixed-signal PCBAs, and camera and vision systems from architecture through production.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Design and bring up mixed-signal PCBAs and SoM carrier boards, including display and UI subsystems — from schematic capture through layout, test, and validation
- →Integrate and validate camera modules, image sensors, and sensing hardware — own the electrical design from sensor to carrier board: connectors, cable assemblies, and interface routing
- →Design multi-branch wire harness assemblies for mixed-signal and power routing in rugged, high-reliability environments
- →Build and own test infrastructure — bench fixtures, automated test scripts, and ATE procedures — for hardware validation and production screening
- →Lead new platform validation; drive root-cause analysis and collaborate with firmware on interface debug
- →Partner with manufacturing teams on DFM/DFT, stackup decisions, vendor qualification, and NPI; collaborate with mechanical engineers on packaging and thermal trade-offs
- →Own the system-level picture across concurrent programs, define scope in ambiguous situations, and adapt quickly as priorities shift
Requirements
~1 min read- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent); 5+ years of hands-on experience on production hardware products
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of low-voltage digital and mixed-signal PCBAs — schematic capture, component selection, layout, and manufacturing release
- Experience designing carrier boards for System on Module (SoM) platforms, including high-speed interfaces (MIPI CSI-2, GMSL2/SERDES, PCIe, USB, GigE) and peripheral integration via standard serial protocols (SPI, I2C, UART); comfortable at the hardware/firmware boundary
- Familiarity with embedded Linux systems — comfortable working alongside firmware on BSP bring-up, driver validation, and interface debugging
- Able to independently bring up and debug new hardware; comfortable with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and standard bench equipment; hands-on with PCB rework and cable assembly
- Strong communicator; able to work independently and drive cross-functional workstreams to completion
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Test automation experience: Python or bash scripting for bench or ATE, fixture design, and parametric measurement
- Wireless and RF integration experience: antenna placement, module selection, multi-radio integration, and FCC certification process
- Wire harness and cable assembly design experience: connector selection, drawing packages, and DFM
- Startup experience preferred.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $195k to $225k, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs. At Mill, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
