Nationwide IT Services, NIS, is seeking a System Administrator V to serve as a senior technical resource supporting USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services (VS) application operations and maintenance.
The position provides application-facing systems administration and operational support across the VS hosting environment, helping maintain the availability, reliability, security, and recoverability of mission-critical applications while working within USDA-established infrastructure, cybersecurity, configuration-management, and change-control processes. This position is fully remote.
The role supports application components hosted across Azure Kubernetes environments, WebLogic clusters, virtual machines, and associated application platforms.
Responsibilities include application availability monitoring, deployment and configuration support, environment troubleshooting, SSL certificate and credential lifecycle activities, patch and version coordination, backup and recovery support, disaster-recovery preparation, and production incident and root-cause analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Support application-facing administration across Azure Kubernetes clusters, WebLogic clusters, virtual machines, and associated application components.
- Monitor and support application availability; troubleshoot application/platform interactions and coordinate infrastructure issues with USDA teams.
- Manage application-level SSL certificate, credential, and version-currency activities within assigned authority.
- Support application backup/recovery procedures, recovery testing, dependency documentation, and disaster-recovery coordination with USDA infrastructure/DBA teams.
- Support deployment, configuration, environment troubleshooting, patch/version coordination, and production incident/root-cause analysis.
- Maintain operational documentation and provide evidence for security, accreditation, and change activities as required.
- Demonstrated experience supporting federal or enterprise production system administration.
- Experience with cloud and container platforms, including Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration.
- Experience supporting enterprise application servers such as WebLogic and Windows/Linux virtualized environments.
- Experience with SSL/certificate lifecycle, credentials, availability troubleshooting, backup/recovery support, and operational documentation.
- Azure and Kubernetes administration/support experience.
- WebLogic administration/support experience.
- Federal application availability and incident-response experience.
- Experience supporting RMF/ATO artifacts, vulnerability remediation, and disaster-recovery exercises.
- Support USDA APHIS Veterinary Services application operations and maintenance in a remote delivery environment.
- Normal support coverage is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time, Monday through Friday. Routine after-hours, weekend, and on-call support are not required.
- This position is fully remote.
- Must satisfy applicable USDA personnel-security, suitability, PIV, training, and system-access requirements before performing access-dependent work.
- Work is performed using Government-furnished systems, tools, software, and processes. Personnel must follow USDA change, release, security, accessibility, and documentation requirements.
