Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
This position requires a solid working knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, theory, and practices, as well as sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety standards. The role demands familiarity with proper medication dosages, their effects, and contraindications. Employees must be skilled in routine medical procedures such as basic wound care, cleaning and bandaging injuries, taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight, and collecting specimens. Competence in preparing and administering medications is essential. In addition, the position calls for the ability to guide and counsel subordinate staff on daily routines, provide direct nursing care within the scope of practice, and accurately observe and evaluate patient conditions. Strong communication skills are necessary to instruct patients in routine medical care and interact effectively with patients and families both orally and in writing. The ability to respond calmly and effectively to potentially life-threatening situations, while demonstrating a professional and caring approach, is critical to success in this role.
State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
