About the Role
~1 min readNexperia is seeking an experienced Principal Modelling Engineer to join our Device Modelling team in Manchester.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and advancing semiconductor device models for next-generation power semiconductor technologies. You will work closely with Device Engineering, Technology Development, Design, Characterization and Reliability teams to improve the understanding, prediction and optimization of device performance.
The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in semiconductor device physics, compact model development, parameter extraction methodologies and system simulation. This position focuses on enabling accurate device representation and performance prediction across a wide range of power semiconductor technologies.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Develop and maintain advanced semiconductor device models for power MOSFET and emerging power semiconductor technologies.
- →Build compact device models using silicon characterization and simulation data.
- →Perform device simulations to understand electrical, thermal and reliability behaviour.
- →Drive model calibration, validation and correlation against measured silicon data.
- →Collaborate with technology development teams to support new process generations and device architectures.
- →Analyse device performance, switching behaviour and loss mechanisms.
- →Support Design Enablement activities through accurate modelling methodologies.
- →Contribute to the development of modelling flows, automation frameworks and best practices.
- →Work closely with cross-functional R&D teams to evaluate design trade-offs and optimize device performance.
- →Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within modelling projects.
- →Present technical findings to internal stakeholders and contribute to publications, patents and conference activities where appropriate.
- PhD or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Semiconductor Physics, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in semiconductor device modelling and simulation.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and power semiconductor technologies.
- Experience in compact model development and parameter extraction methodologies.
- Strong programming and data analysis skills using Python, MATLAB or similar tools.
- Experience correlating simulation results with experimental characterization data.
- Knowledge of system-level simulation techniques and model validation.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary R&D environments.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Experience with power semiconductor devices, primarily Silicon (Si); experience with SiC and GaN technologies is also considered valuable.
- Knowledge of reliability modelling and semiconductor failure mechanisms.
- Experience supporting technology development or process integration projects.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DoE), and model optimization techniques.
- Track record of publications, patents, or conference presentations.
